Batrachor is a young, amphibious humanoid who controls the beasts of the ocean.

I'm a bit late to the game, as always. Here's my first sketch of the guy. I'm forcing myself to do some line art for a change. I'm going to shade him a bit before moving onto my illustration comps. I don't have a lot of time to do multiple sketches atm so I'm going to have to tweak his appearance as I go. This is gonna be fun!

... I decided to jump into sculpting to redesign the costume. I want him to look more royal and sleek and here's what I came up in a couple of evenings:

I'm much happier with this design. It's going to be a bitch to draw and paint all this detail in 2D but I'll give it a shot...

This is awesome. The added 3D concept really adds to it too. I personally quite like the more bedragged look you had going before the royal armour, makes it a bit more intimidating. I think the facial design was also interesting before as well but that's just my opinion. The composition in your thumbnail idea is really nice, and you have beautiful values. Excited for it!

Hey! Thanks a lot for the feedback! Maybe I'll try to find some kind of middle ground in my final illustration so it's not too blingy.

I've been keeping a close eye on your process and it's looking awesome thus far. I especially admire all the sketches you've done before settling on your final comp. It takes a lot of determination to keep pushing out new compositions when you've already created a lot of good ones, but it's definitely worth it!

Tbh I wasn't ever really set on any of them and I could've done a few more. The ones I did like honestly wouldn't have fit into the contest as you need to show your character fighting/defending and at least 80% of that character lol but I am happy with what I chose in the end, it's just being a lot of trouble for me xD
But yes I agree a good balance would be nice and I'm sure it'll look amazing whatever you choose!
