Blocking out background and local colour for my gorgon. I like to put a rough background in before any lighting or shading, makes it easier for the illustration to stay uniformed throughout the whole project. It is a visual aid for knowing light sources and directions and also any ambient light that would effect the subject.

BLocking out light and shadows

was doing some rendering. and decided to change his front legs, to try and get a bit more feeling of movement. Also have been thinking of flipping the image so see which was should he face. Let me know which you prefere.

You might want to rethink the name, Gorgon is a human woman with snake hair. Love your concept, and I think it would work better along the lines of a minotaur.

Gorgons are also the a type of scaled bull. They are referenced in both DnD and Heroes of Might and Magic 3, they are menacing beast with a breath attack. That is what I am basing my creature off.

Okay gotcha, was unaware of these other types.

not many people are aware that there is more than one type of gorgon

Been working on the face and getting some of the scales in. Still got a little bit to go, but I think it is coming along nicely

Some more rendering of the face and neck, blocked out the rest of the scales, and played with some lightning effects

Current progress, designing/ changing some little details as I go.

Its really fun watching the progress of my reference board. I do have a lot more internet tabs open, but these are the main ones that push my ideas, as well as happy accidents that I discover as I go.

Had a long hard look at the my illustrations and it just wasn't sitting right with me. So I needed to change it up. Added some storm clouds and smoke, as well as changed the colours to fit the theme.

17 days later

May not be my best work, the last couple of months have been kinda stressful, however, I feel like it came out well considering.
Due to me being sick for the past 2 weeks and the smoke from the bushfires all around my city, I haven't had the optionality to get to my studio and work on my Champion. I'm having to submit my gorgon as is. If it wasn't for this flu or for Australia being on fire, I probably would have been able to work on it more, but that is life I guess. Anyway...
