A drunken partygoer drowned one night, becoming a prisoner of Davy Jones. The demon of the deep was unable to keep the rebellious soul in his locker, so instead turned her into a kelpie, tethering her with chains and heavy weights so she could never escape to the surface. Now she roams, hunting other drowned souls for Davy Jones' locker.

One thing I have difficulty with artwar is the (more or less) "do anything" open brief. I can never narrow down an idea I want with so much choice. Not even sure which element I'm going for. Probably lightning, but fire is still a viable idea...

Whoa, if i had to pick & if you want more guiding choices or interests from your audience, i say that water one has potential, cause of all the limbs and that fin looks neat on that body, maybe lose the suit or make a smaller use able version if you plan to have her outside the water sometimes, though i think IRL creatures some can live outside of water for a period of time (so you can get away with no gear if you wanted). Is it turtles? idk.
Nice either way you go, i found the punk one a bit amusing the tail mostly on that one and the gloves.

Thanks @3dc, I wasn't keen on the diver suit either, but the fin tail could be re-purposed on another design. Maybe the punk one?

I like the water centaur idea, you could illustrate what the Nuckelavee (mythology demon horse) looks like under water as it has little to no description in its water form.

Hi!
I like the water variation, too. You can certainly try to mix your design with seahorse, dinosaur or abyssal creature so it's more tied too water element. Unless you are going for a diver centaur.

This sounds like a fun concept to work with. Haven't seen another idea quite like this.

From the very last image, I think the 2nd one from the bottom up (the one with the pink hair and angler-fish cannon) ties closest with the image of a champion for this contest. I think a mixture of medieval armour and punk aesthetics can make for a crazy aesthetic.

If her purpose is dragging down others to Davy Jones lockey, maybe the cannon can shoot chains or anchor weighs to achieve this? Just a thought. Love to see where you take this.

Okay, so I'm going for a mix of punk and knight, with some variant of cannon. Thanks @tj-works,
I think I will make it a grapnel / harpoon launcher as it fits the theme nicely.

Last pose looks really good, i like the pink tail part on the 2nd img, the 1st one is great, works well, only thing i want to say is find some complimentary color to go with the green/pink (replacing the brown, maybe or adding to it a purple/brown mix?) Sea creatures are really colorful so you can get away with mixing some colors. Just my .02cents. Also liked the chains and mine pulling, so maybe background noise? Really came along great.

I really like the leaping body pose, but am having trouble combining it with the big bazooka harpoon launcher. Should I drop it for something more dynamic?

Either K or L. My instinct leans towards K because the chain forms a frame around your champion to help make her the focal point. Maybe wrap more chains around her chain-pulling hand, and tweak the arm pose to look like it's about to reel in it's victim.

L could achieve the same effect though, and I like how the chains flop in arcs in L.

It's looking good. Your compositions are very dynamic. I think the harpoon gun really sells your concept. ^^

Yea agree with Tj - k looks good just remove the ammo from the cannon i think its making me think odd things tbh, trying to figure out how the cannon works if it works with chains every shot i am only seeing 1 chain, so the next shots in my head are saying they will have no chain and starts to break the situation going on for me. ' Which is shot fired hooks victim chain to keep it from running off to shot fired blank whats going on with the chain then. ' to explain it better.

But looks great, i also like that, you do not obstruct the hero with other characters in the scene and keep an action scene at the same time. So i like the idea of a ghost/jelly victim.
