I had a few ideas at the beginning, for which I tried to explore several avenues.
2 principal ideas ; a kind of decaying dog, consumed by fire ; or a lighting mecha ( armoured robot), but noting very original !
I ended up mixing my ideas by focusing on the element of fire.
Here are some of my silhouettes to start with
This character is an ancien mecha whose armor is no more than a carcass it’s no longer functional, yet it has been re-animated by a spirit of fire (the “internal blaze” of the first creature!), but which deteriorates the armor again and again. Maybe an intelligent/smart spirit living through the body it inhabit ?
Today i research for some ideas for the equipment, the different parts of the mecha, there are some of my references, to understand how articulations work !
To continue, after my research i tried to explore different part, focusing on the arms and the rib cage !

For this, I based my approach on my previous research, at the level of the articulation, to be able to assemble my legs.
In the meantime, I changed my mind about the shape of the head, and I finally chose my equipment assembly, here is my line !

Won't lie though. His head reminds of those crocodile clips from my Science classes in my childhood.

Nice design on different body parts, especially the rib-cage.
The addition of strong back bone may help the mech to look like more strong and powerful.
