Did a bit more on the anatomy too, it's not important to paint all of it as a lot will be covered in lava and fire, but it;s good practice for me. The armpit is always super challenging, and while I've been studying it for years I still can never get it right. Either way happy with this so far!
Last update for tonight lol got really into it after I started tonight (now it's 3am)I usually don't paint this realistically in terms of characters and their style but I think it's only right to convey the emotion I want the viewers to feel, so I've chosen a more realistic, gritty and grounded approach to the situation. Got a few more anatomy bugs to fix but I made good progress today

Wow, that cloth is beautiful. I really dig what you have here so far, feels very classical. Some blue/violet could help sell the lava a little better, if you've ever seen how lava that's cooled a bit has this cool grey color on it? Looking forward to seeing what you do with this one

@saniThanks so much! Oh definitely, there's a lot more to be painted yet before anything is remotely finished, I'll add that blue and purple in! (I also see it in a lot of the refs I use)

Some more work tonight. Not finished yet for today but hoping to get most of Idatrus done as well as work more on the lava. Currently just adding swathes of lava streams to indicate he pulled the sword from his chest. It was too perfectly preserved as well, so I broke up the sword a little, made it white hot and jagged up the edges (was originally gonna go with an aged, rusty sword but as it was inside him so long it's just gonna be really hot and a bit mangled) it probably broke as he pulled it out. The lore goes that Idatrus plunged his own sword into Phaedrus' heart many centuries ago during their fight, Phaedrus kept the sword in his chest until he had enough power to arise and face his brother. Maybe upon release of the sword he loses so much life essence that he dies soon after?? So many interesting things to think about O8
Wow, great progress! Molten sword is an awesome addition, really works to sell the idea of intense heat! The only thing I think was more clear in the sketch was his right hand - the silhoutte is a bit lost right now in the value of the wing.
Thanks so much I'm glad you'll agree! Ahh yeah you're right, I will probably move the feathers around so the hand is a bit more plainly visible. I'll draw over the hand a little to make the fingers a little clearer too I think. I've not been happy with the position of the wing for a while so I'll mess around with it
