Anyway without further ado-
(EDIT: CURRENT DESIGN BELOW!) (EDIT TWO: this is not the current design but w/e)
Idea behind the current design is: The strength of everyone's wishes for peace and an end to the war was amplified through the element of electricity, and manifested a 'savior' to end the war. However, even for this savior, who was imagined 'perfect' , they cannot see a solution to end the fighting- a fault that is driving them to frustration and confusion. They're supposed to be perfect, they're supposed to fix everything, why cant they? This, is the manifestation of everyone's greatest fears too, that even their savior, perfect, can't end the war.

Started off with some warmup figure drawing just to set the mood for my character. Next update should be a more specific costume, but looseness and mobility is what im going for. Plus im attached to the idea of sweatpants in this high-fantasy world. Fight people... be comfy... zap zap.

We've got a lot this update! (Ft something silly I felt like doing to really get endeared to this lazy champion.) (Will probably edit witl LQ images, idk how big my files are and I don't want to kill the forum)
His design is a play on his name, Fray. He's kinda. Frayed, wires sticking out, being dangerous even when he's just trying to relax
I want a modern feel to this character, because I just think its interesting to think about what goes on in the artwar world when people aren't trying to beat each other into the ground.
He probably had his epic days, and he's kinda tired of the sky opening up, and 'darklord the f*ckupper" peering his head down from the cosmos and smiting his neighbors.

Looking good so far. Careful on how close he looks like Genos from One Punch Man. Your earlier sketches I think are a bit stronger in design for that alone. Maybe change up his clothing more too to add more of a unique look?

IM REALLY feeling traditional this year, so i pulled out my brushpen and went back to doing some 'feeling' sketches. And he DID kinda look too much like genos... OOPS. I might make my final illustration traditional, but it'll just be a matter of getting a good quality pic of it

ITS THAT TIME OF THE YEAR FOLKS, where you get to watch me bungle through 30 different character design ideas. Anywho, heres a preview of what's to come. It would't be a skullguzma thread if I didn't.

Experimenting with composing/desigining the character based off of whether or not they are attacking or defending
Since this character is mostly drawing inspiration from the mind, they're kind of 'fantastical' looking, like a 200 foot tall imaginary friend. Who will fry you with Holy Lasers.

That reminds me, are we supposed to choose between attacking and defending? Or can it be both?

We do have to choose! I just feel like developing two compositions and picking between my favorite
i think i might be more partial to the composition of the attacking pose but the expression in the defensive composition is more my style.
Also yeah, There is something charming about someone who is very tall, and imposing, but with a 'sweet' face.

I like his expression on the right, he looks like a more chaotic character than he is on the left.
He could be a really good fallen angel or a mad god of some sorts

Doing some full-body/outfit sketches + color testing
IDK why, i feel like i want to go for a more natural look for the 'outfit', it feels like it fits more if the pieces of the 'costume are actually just parts of the body. I might also stick with a very limited pallet, sticking to greys and golds mostly

Yeah- the idea behind him is kind of like,
I think about what it must be like to Be the 'champion,' shouldering that responsibility, having all that power to topple/dominate in this 'war' setting. What kind of person that would have to be.
A 'bad end' scenario with a character with all that power would just be total devastation. Which is something I don't think he necessarily wants but would be unavoidable if he really had to go all out.

hahah hah. Faction change. OK- so. the thing i really liked was the crumbling statue look i had going on, and after smacking my forehead for not jumping on it sooner: Statues are stone. Stone is earth.
So the new look is kind of inspired by a flower garden ( complete with decorative statues.)
Also it was going to be easier to be true to the logo with an earth faction character
Their powers? you'll just have to wait and see.

I love your line work , you got this very beautiful style that has an almost 80s space opera anime feel.
