ART WAR 4 War of the Elements

Hello everyone!
I'm a game developer and my profession is game design and art direction. I usually lead a larger team of professional game developers so this is basically my first time for taking part at any ART WAR contest. Let the war begin, this should be fun!
I'm gonna post my drafts here from very rough (unrecognizable) to detailed and finalized work.

I've chosen:
- Lightning
- Creature (Giant)
- Evil
- In attack position
(I decide the rest spontaneously during the painting progress)

Also feel free to send me any questions or other messages. Of course they have to be related to game development. I'm always open to have a chat with passionate and talented people

I often tend to do a very rough sketch on paper first. I just let it flow without having any clue where this is going to. The main thing for me is that I put everything on paper quickly so I don't forget what I have in mind. It also helps me a lot as I don't have to look at a blank page once I start with painting digital.

In this sketch I also add a wizard who may control the giant but I discarded the idea quickly because I wanted to give the giant more attention.

Here I sketched out three different design ideas to give myself a first impression for the giants body proportion and his attacking pose. I don't really like to keep a massive amount of rough sketches therefore I often discard them and keep only those where I think they could have some potential. I eventually decided to continue with design 3.

I was mainly inspired of egyptian aesthetics and late medieval armors and decoration. I thought it would be a cool idea to add metal parts to his body as metal conducts electricity pretty well. I also wanted to make him look very heavy and rather sluggish instead of agile and fast. I'm still playing with the design, changing parts here and there. I may give him a braided beard even to emphasize that he is a really old master but I havn't decided yet.
From now on It's gonna take a while until I'm absolutely satisfied to move on to the detailing work.

I love your design. It's really clear that he he's strong and ancient, like some forgotten god.
On your sketches, I love the way things are moving, they have a very interesting dynamism, maybe you should add some more flowy elements ?

Just experimented with colors and the design a bit. Next follows: Detail work and refining overall. Also adding fabric elements.

I was running out of time so I had to rush it unfortunately. Still, I like how it turned out
