@JoseTijerin haha, thank you for the kind compliment. I shall submit just the arms now after posing them attacking. ^^
finally back from my xmax holidays, and am back to work.
did some quick fingers which are currently more orangutan in length, but I think I'll shorten them to be chimp length as they feel too long.
Sculpted a creepy smiling mask I might use for the shoulder. tempted to give him a banana moustache.. so we'll see how that turns out tomorrow.
going to start modeling some assets tomorrow as well to bring in to sculpt. added horns.
i did some design sketches, and scoured pinterest for inspiration and ended up coming up with some pretty interesting ideas, so I'm excited to block them all in and get them in there to see how they work together.
alright finished some quick block ins. decided I'm going to be giving him a kanabō. because there's nothing "like giving a kanabō to an oni". that, and it's still kind of staff-like without being a staff... He's also got a bit of a samurai vibe.. so some place-holder katanas are there for the moment.
Thoughts on the hat on/vs off? What's everyone's preference, as I can't decide.
K I know I'm biased, but I'm loving his backpack... I want one in real life please.
hereby dubbed the "chunky monkey pouch" Every pocket is most likely filled with an assortment of bananas. @malcom alrighty thanks. I think I agree... now it's just a matter of making it work with his horns. I think I'll also have to pose him with his head angled upwards so that the light hits it.
done for the day. added a bunch of assets, polished some designs. thought I'd be back in Zbrush today, but ended up pushing some shapes a lot more. I'll finish up the sandals quick tomorrow, then jump back to Z to finish up the arm/feet anatomy, add hair/fur finally, adjust horn length, and possible sculpt a whole new mask for his belly, because I just don't like how the tengu mask turned out. busy day ahead! hope you like his direction.
not a super productive day, just did a tiny bit of work on the shoes and redid the samurai armor along the waist as it looked pretty poop earlier.
@malcom thanks! i might not being doing the hat after all, and once I add the hair, i think I'll be even more in favour of not using it.
So I was browsing pinterest for colour inspiration, and I've decided I'm going to take a Kabuki approach to the character, and (potentially) do a bright face paint. this would make him very in line with my last entry as the oliphant was a. anthropomorphic b. painted with indian inspired festival body paint. and I kind of like the idea of them co-existing in the same "art war" world, with this one obviously being inspired primary by Japanese motifs and a Japanese snow-monkey. Did not get to the fur/anatomy today, but tomorrow for sure >.<
@marianoeliceche thank you! glad you like it
@malcom thanks ^^ taking longer than I thought to get to the hair
@ricardoviana thank you I appreciate it!
sorry for the lack of updates, been working on figuring out the head. back to sculpting, decided to revisit the head and bring a stronger mix of japanese male/chimp/japanese snow monkey. probably doing hair tomorrow
woo, finally on the hair, feels good! He's got a lot of it though... so it's taking some decent time to layout. Doing my best to avoid the cliche wukong style hair, and am using a variety of different monkeys fur as reference. Hope you like it so far, sure is night and day visually from the last post.
