Severina is the Goddess of Nature. For centuries she stayed hidden, but now it's time to join this upcoming War of the Elements. Sounds great and all, but I'm the one who has to create this epic creature. Wish me luck...
First step for me is to gather a lot of references. So I can compose my character. Here a screenshot of my first moodboard. It contains images of brave women (Xena!) and real people of nature (beautiful photos by Jimmy Nelson). And of course some nature elements that I can use. But first I will make a base mesh for my character.
I made a second reference board for my nature creature. So many details and different options... But it's fun to create your own character step by step. I also made a base mesh. It still needs some more love, but it's a start. Because she will wear boots, I keep the feet simple. Meanwhile I can work on the outfit.
Nice idea! And your reference boards are really great!
Thanks! Hopefully I can translate this in a nice model
This is an update. I worked my way through the outfit and all the features I had in mind. I will add a lot of details in to the textures. That way I have more control over them and have more possibilities. Meanwhile I'm also working on the staff that she will carry.
Made some testrenders in Marmoset to see how the silhouette and the lighting is working on the model so far. This week I will finish the high poly model and start with the UV's.
Well, the UV's are done...fortunately Always fun to make cuts, stitches and put everything in the smallest space possible. But because we don't have any restrictions, I could make a lot more texture sets. Always nice for texturing. I also made a render of the low poly mesh. Next stage is texturing. Let the fun begin!
Update during the texturing phase. Now it's time to refine and work on the details. I also did some more work on the staff. Still WIP, though. After the texturing I can refine my low poly model a bit more and work on the pose.
A little update on my character. I did most of the textures and started with the hair. I'm also thinking of giving her a nice pet. Just to help her during the battle And I want to create some smoke or green flames in the palm of her wooden hand. So I have to play a bit with the particle system. So, still a lot to do...
I refined and changed some of the textures. And I used another hairshader to make it look more realistic. Besides that I also made a companion for her. A lovely fluffy pet to join her on her adventures Next part will be the smokey and flamey stuff that will rise out of her wooden hand. So, I have to play around with the particle system. After that I will create a simple scene around the characters to maker it more appealing.
A preview render of the particle flames that come from the skull in her hand. I made the color green to make it more 'nature looking'. Of course the final render will be more crisp and detailed.
Well, all good things come to an end I finished my character and made some detail renders for the detail sheet. Later this week I will post my final render.
So, this will be the final post. It's been a long and interesting ride. Learned a lot along the way. And now it's time to wrap it all up and submit my girl Besides the final render I also post the detail sheet with some close ups. It was fun and I definitely will join the next challenge! I'm not sure if I have to mention my personal info here too, but I will anyway. Name: Danny KoningsteinEmail: dako68@ziggo.nlFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/danny.koningstein
I love all the detail in the model. Thanks to the lighting, the textures look hyper-realistic.
Thanks very much for your feedback. It was nice that we had no texture limits. So we could make some detailed textures and models.
