I've put together a reference board. I'm thinking about doing a Bunyip/ Yowie type creature by using different traits and features from unique Australian animals. 
Been working on some sketches. I kinda like 4, but could maybe merge it with 5 and or 1 as well.
Please let me know your thoughts and which ones you like

Started thinking about different colour options. Might come up with something that combines some of each of these. It's difficult to design a creature that's designed to hide in murky waters while using the colours of my country's flags. 
Started working on the illustration, just a rough layout. 
I really like the proportions and shapes you created there Maybe you could give him more colors of the flag? Or the stripes and stars as a fur pattern? Could look interesting ^^

Been working on the frill. Swapped the colours around, as with most fill necks, the darker colour is on top. I also added some white in the middle.
