First time here! Although a bit late, I'll try my best to finish until the deadline.

I'm reeeally bad with forums, so it's gonna take some time to learn and get used to posting like this! First things first, I usually try typing down whatever I know and whatever ideas come to mind regarding the brief topic, so here's my brain fart!

I gathered some reference and narrowed it down to this! I'm thinking of doing a character closely related to the Amazon biome, the indigenous people (the oldest "original" culture of the country) and the Carnaval festivity

And so I did some very rough preliminary sketches! Sorry they're hard to understand they're mainly for me to put out as many different ideas with the least amount of detail on each one, to a level I can tell apart one from the other on the most basic level. Don't know if that's very efficient, but hey I tried

These are the final iterations I've come to! I'm split between doing this big, mountain-sized shield guy and an offensive and agile bow+arrow hunter from the Amazon. I'm leaning towards 'C', but I don't have much time to be indecisive so I'm gonna try moving foreward with the design as quickly as possible so I can start the illustration!

I like B and C, they already show a kind of personality. 😄
Btw the dynamic pose in D is nice.

So I decided to go with 'C' ! I tried coming up with the design for the shield, did some exploration sketches first, here's kinda how it's gonna look (might do a few tweeks in the future!)

Also tried coming up with the details for the concept, here's what I ended up with!

And lastly did some color iterations, mainly on the skin. I'm still undecided, leaning towards 'B' and 'E'

That's it for today! I plan on finishing up the design sheet by tomorrow, so lots of work ahead. I just wanna do the illustration alreadyyyy

I like E for the colors ^^ The contrast between skin and moss is really nice.

Thank you everyone for the kind words!! I ended up going for B, but thank you everyone for the suggestions and comments regardless! Here's the final design sheet, the layout kinda bothers me so might change it in the future (open to any suggestions you guys might have!)

This took longer than what I planned, I'm gonna try to be quicker in the following steps! The plan is to have the thumbnails done by tomorrow!

By the way, in case it leaves some confused, the eye-looking things are actually a native Brazilian fruit called guaraná! It's also very closely related to Brazilian indigenous culture, so I found it quite fitting!

Yo, awesome design! In the pencil sketches the beard and feathers look rough but in the rendered version they look more neat. I think it’d look better if you roughed them up a bit in the rendered version too

I'm having some trouble with organizing the values, I think B is the most comprehensible so might go with that

I like B the best, but there's a lot of space on the left, are you going to put something there?

yeah i was planning on putting more soldiers or other things that tell the story a little better, it does feel very empty for now

I like A, maybe with the highlights being a bit more intense?

Liking the sunset from A too, like early morning, maybe having the sunlight piercing thought the leaves and making some blurry spots of light, so incresing contrast overall ?
