A character inspired by the tale of Princess Kaguya, but with more of an alien element included.

Hey guys,
This is my 1st time participating in this sort of challenge so I am excited to see how things will turn out! :3 Lots of cool entries so trying to have mine match up : D . The initial concept I am working on is this Moon Warrior Princess (representing Japan as a country) after I read about "The Tale of The Bamboo Cutter".
I feel like quite a few know or have at least heard about Princess Kaguya - the fact that she came from the Moon, was raised on Earth, and then the Moon people came to take her back OwO. I thought it would be really fun to mix some traditional elements with some alien ones (maybe throw in a spaceship or two, or some bamboo elements). And here are my initial sketches I want to further develop! (along with a moodboard page of online images I put together)

Some more sketches and ideas. What if she was using a flying alien device to travel around.. or she has a rabbit (since there is that folktale with a hare living on the Moon)drone that is either her only friend or something that her people sent to keep an eye on her while on Earth 0_0.. I think I like the friend idea better. I also imagine her having some sort of power where she can shoot laser beams or some sort of strong light.

Working on completing the final design along with figuring out what I want to add in the Character Sheet. I want to include as much as possible but still keep it to the important details. Had some setbacks when getting to this stage, but luckily the deadline has been extended so I' ll be making the effort to deliver everything that is needed in time! OwO

Slowly coming together. Since the "Moon Rabbit" is also known as the "Jade Rabbit" I thought it would be fun to incorporate that theme into this as well. Have her spaceship and rabbit companion be "powered" by the green jewel. Maybe the Moon people that she is part of have a currency that uses Jade stones instead of money and they build all sorts of other things with it>

Thinking of some poses for the final illustration. Trying to balance it between elegant and dynamic, how confident she is when attacking/defending (in my version she fights back after she was provoked)...settling on the backstory, etc. Though, some of the cool poses I had in mind did not quite work out (like the bottom left two) as more of the body needs to be presented and the outfit would not flatter. Bottom right corner is probably what I will start the illustration with.

That's a nice character! And the pose you did are nice. Like you I like the bottom right one, but also the bottom left one. Either way, I look forward to see what you'll do with your illustration

Expanded a bit on that last pose that I liked (I imagine her being attacked with some sort of lasers/beams by her people who want to take her away from Earth and back to the Moon. So she has to fight back in order to stay. Or maybe some sort of revolution is happening on the Moon and the enemies are coming for her crown - still settling on the backstory as the more I think about it, the more ideas come to mind 🙈)

Ok.for whoever is interested 👉👈 I have settled on the backstory:

She was sent to Earth as a form of "punishment" by a vote of the Council, who..were actually traitors. They just wanted to keep her away from the fight so that they could overtake the royals and be the ones at the top instead.

Luckily, some allies from within the Council inform her of the situation and she goes back to the Moon only to be met with a very messy fight. Loud lasers and big energy bullets everywhere! OvO Since she is actually the best fighter from all the Moon Warriors, she softly smirks at the attempt of the traitors..

I want the background to be messy and the details more in motion, however not to the point where it is too distracting (so I am working on that).

And of course, I need to fully render her and adjust some of the values so that there is a bit of order in the chaos.
Since there are not many days left, I am focusing on being efficient with my choices so any tips are welcome! :3

My laptop however is starting to struggle as (my guess) the file size is quite big in comparison to what I usually work on.:)) It can get so loud sometimes.

Some quick material studies before I continue with the illustration because I feel like the flow of the dress looks too stiff. Moreover, the way I made the light hit it gives it a rubbery feel so I want to adjust that.

Also, I am not sure why but I changed my profile info and it still has not updated. My username is still stuck to the 1st part of my gmail address. Since name and email address are one of the requested details for this challenge I will submit them manually in the next entry to avoid any errors.
