Hi my name is Peter Cools and I will be representing my home country the Netherlands for this project!

This will be the first time I will participate in this contest. Already having a lot of fun!
I am representing the Netherlands and here is some inspiration I have been looking at. I wanted to do something with the Lion as the character base. Also the Netherlands has a long history with water. We are known for our skills in building bridges and boats.

I like the weapon and facial expression in 2 and the clothes and the mane in 3. 😄

And here is a quick color and pose test. During the process I thought it could use a little extra, so I figured that a water reservoir on his back would be a nice idea. Let me know what you think!

The tank is an good idea. I love your progress so far, he already has so much personality 🤩 Very curious seeing him in an environment. Great job 👍🏼

So I was not really happy yet witch communicating the country in question. So I stayed with the same concept but made some adjustments. I made the water tank and the super soaker a bit more authentic looking and added some typical dutch 'Delfts blauw' visual elements to it.
In addition I added a small hint of a windmill on top of the tank. My goal is to communicate the Netherland better without being to obvious or cliché.

So here is my design so far! The concept is still like the direction of the Lion Captain as a subject. However I want to experiment a bit more. Added some elements and deleted some that seemed a bit too much.
My next step will be to make a few variations on this character. I especially want to look at his weapon. I am considering to let go of the water pistol concept and actually go with a brutal cannon decorated with 'Delfts Blauw'.

I have been exploring some options for the weapon of this character. I wanted to integrate some typical Dutch elements without going overboard. Get it? Overboard

I ended up liking A and B the most. With a small preference for A. Athought I do like the 'Delfts Blauw' element in B.

I wonder what you guys think. Let me know!

Man they look both so great, it's hard to decide between them xD
I would go with B if I'd have to decide, bc it reminds me at pistols that pirates used (=sea)...Or C haha don't know. I definitely like the porcelain patterns, for me this is a very unique feature 😄

they're both gorgeous. I like the mass of the "A"option. but in the "B" version, the porcelain looks great!

Thanks I completely agree that was where I had a hard time myself to make the decision hehe, I might try a version where the blue patterns are integrated in the A verison..

These chunky stylised guns look amazing! Maybe take the porcelain and the scope from B and slap them on to A

This is a great character! I think I like B for the weapon but I think it needs a bigger stock to balance the weight of the gun. Would also be great to see A with some porcelain as well. I also think the original gun is a great choice as is.
