For my reference board, I'm looking at one of the more recognizable clothing styles in Vietnam, the elegantly long au dai. The ao dai is often combined with the halo-like headress. I wanted to combine this piece of clothing with armor and decorative elements to make it seem more etherial.
I started off with some shape thumbnails to brainstorm. The specific feel I wanted to go for was an empress or a powerful and elegant deity. I then took a couple of the shapes I liked and begin adding lines to further develop the idea.
