  • Thank you! I finally cleaned that up. Meanwhile started 3 more ..I have a habit of taking too long to finish a piece, then I lose interest in it and just start something else. I found 8 from recently i started and abandoned, that are decent enough to not delete, but not finished. There’s also been a number of drawings I felt I “outgrew” - became better before I finished them, and it would be easier to start from scratch than fix them. Anyone else thinking that?
  • Lady Death Fanart Collectible: Part 6 Polypaint and base Hi, it’s time to share with you another part of the process to create this fanart piece. Polypaint As this is my first collectible fanart I didn’t have previous experience with polypaint so I tried my best and played a bit with it.I wanted to give a ghostly and eerie look to Lady Death, she is beautiful and deadly, but at the end of the day she is a woman that died and was reborn at hell as an avenging spirit, that’s why I gave her skin tone a bluish very cold tone.As you will see I gave myself some creative freedom to deviate from the traditional color scheme that this characater has in comics and illustrations. To add a bit of sensuality by painting some freckles on the face and the chest. The dark nature of this character was the perfect excuse to gave her a kind of goth make up, very dark shadows around the eyes, blue lips and fingernails. I know that the original character includes sexy red lips but I wanted this girl to have a sexy but at the same time creepy look, that’s why we can see some thin veins emanating from her eyes. The biggest chromatic change I did for this character is at the hair. Lady Death has a characteristic white weavy hair but in my fanart I decided to gave her a very saturated blue color. The reason behind this wasn’t only an aesthetic choice. I want that the face area strongly pulls the attention of the viewer so this area needed a stronger contrast. Another reason is that I want her to have a more modern look, as I mentioned before, I’m strongly attracted to women with goth/punk look. I gave myself half an hour or more to analyse the work of experienced sculptors that create collectibles and I discovered that the use of darker values on the skin is often applied to create a greater sense of volume and three-dimensionality. I found that areas with heavy ambient occlusion are the perfect places to paint with darker colors in order to increase the separation between different forms. Even though she has a bluish skin tone, I used a bit of warmer hues in areas that, in real life, tend to go towards red and pink, this is very obvious in the nose, cheeks, and knuckles. Thinking with a logical mind it’s completely absurd to have warmer tones on the body of a zombie like creature but I didn’t want to limit myself by using only blue tones, it looks boring and artificial. In real life these colors are created by blood vessels in areas where the skin is very thin. ** Scythe **for her weapon I applied a cool gray with some warmer variations, this color scheme is influenced by the work of H.R giger. Base I’d like to talk about the design for the base which, to be honest, I forgot to develop along with the character. My main idea with the base is to show that Lady Death inhabits a very sterile and arid land, at the end of the day she is at hell. You can see a that she walks over dirt and rocks, a sign that she’s surrounded by death and loneliness. As part of the landscape we can see some bones and skulls to reinforce the idea of lack of living creatures, yet we can see three hands that try to reach her legs. This hands represent that all creatures are subordinated to her power and seek an evil blessing with a simple touch of the princess of the damned.1- The hand with skin burns represents the souls of those who are newcomers to hell, tortured souls that suffer for the sins comitted on earth.2- The hand with greenish rotten skin and pustules is the reminder of the decay that has infected the souls of those who have been trapped and have forgotten their humanity3- Last but not least, the hand of a demon shows that even dark creatures and entities bow before her presence. The cherry on the top, at least in my vision, are the simese twins that emerge from the ground, this malevolent creatures remind us that in hell there’s only perversion and any trace of innocence is lost. Thanks for reading till this pointI’m really happy to be very close to finish this creative journey, last but not least it’s mandatory to talk about splitting the sculpture in several pieces to be printed, this will be my last entry before showing the final rendered images. See yaMay Zbrush be with you

It feels really nice I hope it stays this way A portrait of old dude. It's the same character I posted a while ago. Inspired by Bayard Wu work. At first I thought of him as a bear but I named him Fenrir and I think wolf suits him better. Eye gave me a bit of hard time but I think it is fine now. I focused on face and forgot about area below. The way I draw hair clashes with greying hair. I had the same problem while doing Lohse's white hair. Does it looks like it is greying here? I love how desaturated red looks blue there. I keep lying to myself that I will use different color scheme but It all comes down to this blue and yellowish one it is just flipped this time Have a great day!

Hello everyone!

Here is my first concept for the character and is currently TBD as far as the final design goes. This character is going to be fighting for the light side and is a fairy. The Biology of the character is a insect plant hybrid. the concept below is the "naked" version and i will be adding a varied assortment of items and clothing in a later update. I may create a mount for the character, I just have to see what direction I wish to go with this one.

Any constructive criticism would be very much appreciated and I also want to wish everyone else good luck with their submissions.

I am still debating on the overall flow of the body. clothing will be placed similar to how it is presented in the picture as well as give me a better understanding on the nature of the character based on how it contours.
Please give me feedback on which you like or if i should merge different ones together or try a new approach to the body and design.

My thanks to everyone in advance!

Ok so i have basically finalized the overall design and body shape. (please pardon the lack of detail, i am mostly trying to put together a nice body look with a nice color pallet.)
Anyway, Please leave feedback on the current design and suggest a pallet from the images provided. It would be a huge help. I will draft a color pallet once this picture is finalized as a design in terms of physical appearance.

Thank you to everyone again!

Very cool, keep it up. You’ve got the plant look down but I feel that aside from her forearms feet there Isn’t much of an insect like design.

Thanks for the input! I will try to incorporate more of an insect look into her final design.
She will have wings later so I can see if I can add it there.

Cool Character Alex, i dont know the story of the character, and the reason of her large hip, but looks like the upper body is one and the lower is another, if i could suggest, let her legs more slim, like slim models, that you have a space in the middle of the legs, could be more part of this character upper body.

Good luck,

Best,
Douglas Deri

Thank you for the feedback. Her hips were originally wider because i was going to go for more of an insect look but as the design changed I leaned more on 30% insect and 70% plant for more elegance. Now that the design has changed I will defiantly consider the changes you suggested and make her more slim

Thank you again Douglas Deri for the feedback. I took your advice into consideration and I slimmed her down. I also took steps towards better blending the design of her lower and upper half together. So far I think it looks much better.
Thanks again for the advice and best of luck to you as well.

Hey Alex !
Yes it looks better like this.
Can't wait to see her wings deployed ^^

Nice to see you're on the light side too
Good luck !

Yay! Finally some color!
Anyway, Please let me know which one of these pallets looks the best.
(personally I think 1 and 6 turned out the best but your input also weights heavy on it.)
Once i get the pallet selected i will do the full turnaround and add the wings.

Thank you for you input in advance! (you may need to hit "ctrl +" or "command +" to zoom in)

I really do hope my critique will be ok for you...but there is one thing that (I think) make her really too dark for a Light character...the (sort of ?) crown surrounding her eyes and her nose are way too sharp.

Again my opinion, you do whatever you want with it ^^

As for the colours maybe the first one (maybe a little more stronger/flashy green ?) or the middle on the second line ?
Your choices anyways...good luck again man !

Thanks for your feedback! I actually am working on softening the eyes in the final turn around. While I was making her pallets I was think the same thing. She will have a more plesant appearence when I post next design. As for color i did a survey here, and Facebook and the current contender for color is 1, 6 and 4.
I would like to ask around and see which of those 3 is the best fit in public opinion.
1,6, or 4?

6

If i may suggest, maybe, in the final image, you could use the colors of the background as the same as the photo reference that you have used, it fits well.

Thank you for the feedback! I will take the background color idea into consideration. Im a ways off from that yet but its is defiantly an option.
Anyway, with the Cubebrush and Facebook tolls i got the following results:
1: 2
4: 5
6: 9
So for the final turnaround I shall be using color scheme 6, but 4 was also popular so i may try to merge the two some how but if all else fails i will be using 6.

I've soften the face so she looks more light character that she is supposed to be as opposed to the questionable original. She has downward facing ears now for a more gentle appearance as well as added a horn on the forehead so now she looks more like a dryad but She will remain a fairy in the final turn around. I have also mixed the color pallets of 4 and 6. I may tweak it a little more but i like the added changes. I hope you do too but any feedback is much appreciated. (You may have to hit "command +" or "ctrl +" to get a better look)

Side note: I will be going out of town until December 30th so I will not be able to post any more progress until I get back, but I can still help you guys with feedback on your designs.

Hey Alex, I like the flower design.
She has a homogeneous design, everything is important, there is no focal point I can look at first. You could fix it really fast with big-small-contrast. Maybe make her haircut much bigger or the shoulder piece, even a wide skirt looks great. Look at this beautiful flowers you have as a reference and stay inspired ^^

Also for me she is looking so sad, kinda too sad for a beautiful flower ^^ haha I hope my feedback can help you in some way. Keep doing!

Agreed with @frankenstejin ...why so sad face ?
What I like is the new tint of colour skin.

And yeah a bigger haircut would be very nice on her !
If I were you (but I'm certainly not) I will cut that edge/nose (even maybe the crown entirely). Just play around and try different design/shapes maybe ?

Thank you both for the feedback. The idea of big-small contrast should really help the design. I will experiment with making her hair bigger then try her skirt. I can try tweaking the pallet in the full drawing to help with additionally with the contrast. As, for the face I was making more of just a neutral position but she did turn out sad. (Don't really know, could've been the music I was listening to?) Regardless I will take your feedback into consideration for my next
update. Thank you again for your input!
