The lure of white hare

She (or it), not that "gongerbreadhouse type" of witch. More like a mixture of the Baba Jaga, the skinwalkers with a hint of the Tooth Fairy.
Lurking in the deep forest, sneak through the thick brushes, without any sound...

Once you don't hear any noise of the wildlife, chirping of the bugs, or chatter of the birds... Just one heavy breathing from right behind you.

Those small white bunny statues look straight at you. And in a viewing distance, an another little group of stone bunnies. When you watch it close you're not sure anymore, what king of material is that. Pick up the smallest one...
A carved bone? This eerie feeling coming down your spine, and the hair stands up on your neck...

But stat to follow the path signed with these strange decorations.

"This is the lure of the hare, ends up in the darkest, bloody lairs."

And the inspirations.

This is my original "white hare" concept, from a year ago. Part of a series, called 'Necromancers.'

For the body shape i chose an another not so old concept from the Beneath the waves contest. She is the 'Mother toad'.

And a fresh one, the 'Hag'. This was a pure joy of painting. From here i wanna pick up the additional elements like the branches, chicken legs and dead(?) animals.

I'm thinking in an "all in one" all-star character/creature, like the wendigo, the skinwalker and the Baba Yaga.
I want to do two versions in the character sheet, a masked one, with more witch features, (tools, dress, example), and an unmasked one in the final monster-beast form.

Looks cool and interesting so far!
I would recommend you to exaggerate sizes of body parts more to make visual appearance more dynamic and interesting (make arms longer, body smaller, back bigger, etc.) Go extreme with sizes and then adjust if necessary (rule of typography design).
So far - so good!

Sketches for the witch 'White Hare' form.
I want this appearance not unequivocally scary. In this shape she lurk the people deeper in the forest, and possess them with her hunger spirit form.

Just a little eerie feeling... when you feel the odd odour... then see her non-human legs... and hear the growing heavy breathing behind her strange mask...

I'm struggling a little, because the witch form looks more interesting to me than the monster form. And this choice is affect the final illustration...

I think your last design, image on the right, is just awesome. It shows both hare and witch elements. Perhaps 'down the rabbit hole' is an idea for your illustration? I like the composition of your first illustration draft as well, but the giant witcht might not quite fit with the hare theme? Just a thought!

Can't stop experimenting with this witch topic. I think if i need to paint these things for a whole year, i would be happy even then.
But soon, need to finalise the design...

And recognised that i didn't write a proper first post about the character... so i'll update that soon.

"The white hare's lair."
I can't wait to start to paint the final illustration. But i'm hesitating a little between the two view. The first one give more space to play with the tunnel, and negative space. But on the second one i can show more closeups about the lair.

May be the indoor space its not so important, its like the first one has a story behind the picture. Also you can try adding more elements to make your character scarier, like a kid going though the tunnel XD.

Wow! Lots of great designs You could design a few other characters off of them xD I'm liking the direction you've taken though For the final illustration I think the second works better. The goal is to show off the character and I think that one brings the focus to them more. You could even bring the illustration in closer potentially, or adjust the angle to make them more intimidating. Overall, it looks likes it's coming together well. The values you used really help draw you to the character.

Oh, the values... i need to recognise, painting only with values is my fav part. Sure i'll just add a few soft colours, and some bright red...and "dried" red
