Dark Faction

Hello everyone, my idea is a mad scientist that have made a machine that can "make real" the human emotions in organic material( the detailed operation is written in the sketches), and our most primal emotion is the fear of death: so i decided to represent the "organic representation" of this fear like a monster of nightmares made of corpses. I toke inspiration by "The Thing" of John Carpenter and the necromorphs from Dead Space saga.

Actually, i don't even know if it breaks the SFW level.

Now i strated modeling the scientist, i hope i can finish before the deadline. For any questions feel free to ask.

First sculpting steps of the scientist

Here are the last updates of the scientist: i detailed the hair and fixed some body parts like the neck and a little bit the head; i polished the stitchings of the clothes; added the remaining clothes and detailed them; retopologized and reporojected the body mesh; i also decided adding a lace to the bra, so i modeled it and made a curve mesh brush for any evenience.
Now i start modeling the monster.

Here's the last update, i staryed making the model of the real "Thanatophobia": i searched references for making the skull of a dog but with human teeth as reference, i removed the concept that start from the cheekbone because it would have been too much things on the head; next i started making the eye parts; made the hair meshes but i don't know if use xgen or leave them as meshes; made some muscle attachments and sculpted humerus, ulna and radio for the arms.

it' more that two weeks that i don't publish wips, but here the final modeled monster: i first modeled the human pieces that i needed, next i assembled them all, for the spine i modeled one vertebra and made a mesh tool, and the single arm that i attached to the "agglomerated" part. the remeshed topology was so strange that i was forced to make all UV's by hand, but once i completed and optimized the mesh, i moved it in substance painter.

These days in Substance Painter i focused and started by the uncovered muscles and back part, so i started matching the color of bones and muscles (the third image is the final) and next i started making the human skin for the arms and next the rest of body: for the body i tryed making some different shading, one like gangrenous flesh and one like a black strange material that can match better with the black smoke behind it, next many test opted for a shading like tar (because the arms seems sticked into an amorf material, like the tar). Obviously now i don't have the final renders of it with me so for now i uploaded the tests that i made.

Ok the monster is almost finished, the only thing that remains is the hair. Now I started texturing the scientist, next I make the hair bands for both characters. At the end the wips of the gun and smoke.

hi everyone, i've just seen that the deadline changed to 5 march, that gave me the opportunity to change the renderer. I've almost finished everything and only remains the smoke, but for marmoset i tryed to optimize as much as i can and it's alwais heavy to make the .mview scene, so i really try convincing myself to change the render type and leave marmoset to use arnold for maya. So probably my next step is to add some more geometries and much definition. I've seen the character of the other challengers and they looks awesome, i know that i can't win so now my input is to finish the project and bye.
Down i uploaded the final textures of the catalyst and some tests that i tried make on marmoset, my next step is to return the monster on zbrush and reproject the details, so i don't loose my uv's and next the rebaking on substance, making the fog and at the end render with arnold or vray.

Ok here are the new updates: i changed the texturing of the monster tryng to match the style of the scientist, i also added the emissive texture to make it more alchemic, and added some decals on the coat of the scientist, all tests was rendered with arnold for maya 2016 that cra
shes everytime yay.
