Hi, Name's Isac AKA TripleAce, First time actually competing in a big contest like this, or well, a contest at all regarding this subject. I'm a Newbie to both 2d and 3d, but the passion is focused on 3d so don't expect so much from my sketches x)
My concept is based on the mythological god Wukong. Mythology and stories about gods and their powers have always fascinated me, and none the less the monkey king himself. although a straight off model or concept of just Wukong already exists and would not be that creative, nor fun to make, so the idea is to apply some sort of story about a boy (kid/teen) who have acquired the headband that was once worn by sun Wukong himself, untainted from the curses of unbearable pain, the headband now more contains the powers of the king, and the wearer can summon Ruyi Jingu Bang (Wukongs staff) through a spiritual form into the real world. The headband also enhances the wearer's physical attributes, to match the Gods desires. ___ (Name TBA) has now stumbled upon this relic, and with his newly acquired powers, will he stand and fight against the dark powers that threaten the earth.
Creds to Andres Castaneda Munoz and the submission from last year "Elyve, The Shattered Claws", It really sparked up my imagination
Other inspiration sources include a lot of 3d characters from "kids movies" like Hiro (Big hero 6) and other among Disney/Pixar movies.
First brainstorm session, Warned you that I'm not that good at 2d x)
I'll make it up in the 3d though
GF stole my pen and charger so sat down in Maya, and began with the base of the staff since I couldn't start on the character silhouette right now x)
Update, have been working with the model for a little while now, working of the facial features mostly now, also thinking of remaking the gloves, didn't get the feel that i wanted. these were inspired by ekko in League of legends alittle, but i want the silouette to seem a little less "bulky" so will probably go for something, leatherish small gloves who goes up about the lenght of the current gloves, but more "slick"
Progress~
made a new itteration of the gloves, more lightweight that would more fit this character, feels more nimble, Also added pants, not sure if it's the final ones, but for now i think they look good, and started with the "shoes", will add more detail on all "flat" surfaces, probably with bumpmaps, but rednering those from zbrush. Though is to add this project to my portfolie, so will probably work with getting it as "game ready" as i can after i'm done with this contest
Todays progress, I've added most of the geometry, that i visioned to add, and so far the shilouette and the feel of the character meets up to my expectations and visions. Just need to add more detail to the geometry and the overall pice... and ofc the hair and stuff x)
Getting there~
Hair progress, not enierly done, other side of the head remains and a few stray clupms of hair for the shiluette, and stray hair strands of course.
Getting there, I think that the only thing I have left to do ( and time to do) is to paint it and give it materials from inside Zbrush. I'm not even done, and have so far just gone over a lot of the modeling wich I actually though i knew how to do, but have already learned so much new about my work flow and modeling, and will probably learn a lot more now when I'll dive into the painting, it feels so rewarding c:
Aaaallmost doneeee c:
Finishing touches incomming, pardon the lack of updates, I've either been working, or working on the model xD, but so far Since last time, I've tried posing in zbrush, but ended up exporting to Maya, Getting a autorig set up, posed, went back to zbrush to fix what really couldn't be fixed by weight mapping the mesh, THEN exported to maya again xD, and went trough to learn how to make some nice materials for arnold render, and as cherry on the top, also learnt how to make a simple effect from emitters, etc. HOLY M I've learnt a lot from this project x3
I'll be back tomorrow for the absolute last touches, maybe new camera angle, and im going to try and get rid of the grain atleast, also thinking of a more fitting name than "wukid" x)
Final image, Fixed the grain, and Amped up with some lights so He's easyer to see. It've been a very productive experience to make this character, I actually think that I've learnt so much from every single part of the production of this character, and even though i probably wont even see the light of the First selection of finalists, I am really satisfied with my work

Detail Sheet:
Had to rush trough the detail sheet, i'll try and fix some more after work if there's still time
