Hello, I'm BluestThings. I've been stuck in a rut for the last year or so and am really trying to get away from that so I picked up Marc's Art School. I want this to be the year that I level up my creative passions, namely art and music production. I hope to be able to balance things and still see progress. We'll have to see how that goes. I would love to at least be able to dabble in character design, illustration and/or comics someday. Narrowing down to the specialty that most interests me is always difficult in basically any activity but I'm still basically a beginner so I'm probably going to try not to worry too much about that for now.

I have way too many interests to properly sum up but to list a few... I like manga and anime but also grew up on and love western superhero comics. I'm also obsessed with the Mega Man series and some other older video game series as well as JRPG's and tactical RPG's. I think it'd be a lot of fun to show my love for all of these things in my art.

Eventually, I think it'd be neat to contribute music and art to game development projects or possibly use said skills to put my own games together. I'm further along on my music journey than I am on my art journey but I've been away from both for a while so it's time to change that. Looking forward to meeting some of the others that are on their own journeys here.

For now, I figure I'll throw some of my older sketches/pieces in here. All of these were referenced. I kind of feel like I used to be better at reference sketching a long time ago but I may have just put more time into those sketches.

Here's some stuff referencing the manga Negima that I did in 2011 or 2012.

And one from Ai Yori Aoshi around the same time

Here's a few reference sketches that I did in 2015 or 2016 (with references included since I still have them)

And finally some stuff that I did in 2019. (with the last two having references included)

I didn't really do much digitally until about 2021 but just remembered that I could include a bit of that too.

Anyways, sorry about the big art dump here. I just was looking back through what I've done and thought it'd be neat to sort of have a 'this is what I've done in the years before the art school program'. Mostly anything I could feel halfway good about was a reference sketch. I would like to get much better with references, particularly references that aren't drawings because those are more challenging but super helpful. And I need to become MUCH more comfortable without references. I can hardly draw anything that I'd be happy about without references so I'm going to make it a point to regularly just free draw. Also, I would like to get way better at digital art because I feel like all the stuff I did in a sketchbook tended to come out better.
