Hi, im Carlos i recently bought the first term of art school and i just finished nude figure drawing. Im gonna upload some of my practices but something i dont get about figure drawing is how to apply that to a drawing, should i draw over it an erase the lines or should i use it as a reference and have it near me. I´ll be thankfull is someone can help me with that.

Welcome to the forums! so for your figure question, it is used primarily as something you do to study the form of the body and measurement techniques, so you can use it as a reference or you can draw on top of it so its really up to you how you want to use it. You can apply the use of figure drawing to an actual drawing by using it as ref or once you finish using it for ref you can then turn it into a character of your choice and make it a personal piece afterwards

I tried making a character using the figures and then doing it again but without them, and i think that although its not perfect it transmits better the pose i was trying to do . The one on the right is the one with the figure drawing. still look weird tho, i guess i need to learn anatomy too.

I made this fanart today using figure drawing, i used a reference but i still think it looks weird. I´d really like some feedback of the drawing/painting

can't really point anything out anatomy wise but the face is too flat in a side angle you should see the transition between the brows and the nose have a dip in between them

your head seems to be missing the cranium(back part of the head) as well it should have a bit more space on the back.

I also feel like the hair sticks too close to the head try to remember that hair has volume to it so you should show more volume with your hair. The lighting or colors also don't indicate where the chin ends and the neck begins so that makes the neck look weird as well

The brows should wrap around the head more and the ear looks too squished as well. This is all based on if you're going for a more realistic face as well so that's all that I saw that I could point out. hope it helps if you have questions feel free to ask.

Thanks for the feedback , i really appreciate it!, yeah i have some problems with anatomy and composition, specially if im not using references, but ill keep practicing

Perspective practice. I didnt undertand how to put the vanishing point, i know is at sea level. but how do you know where to put it if you are making an original piece or you dont see the vanishing point in the reference. Can someone help me with that pls.

so I would describe it as a point that you put on the horizon line that indicates where all your lines have to match. so if you have a room that you plan on making you first have define the horizon line even if it's a room because that defines what you are seeing the bottom or top of an object and then you employ a single dot to where you want the lines to converge. You know where to put the vanishing point based on what perspective you are using and where the horizon line is. it always goes on the horizon line except for 3 point, 4 point, & 5 point. It also depends on do you want the perspective the be warped if so you put the VPs close together in a 2 point set up or if you want it to look normal puts far away from each other off the canvas or paper. one point which is what your doing works by placing the VP on the horizon line no matter what scene your setting up and choosing if you want the room to be seen more straight on or more angled to the right or left based on where on the horizon line you place your VP.
