Hey, cool blog! Studies are important, they help you really understand how things work visually. Remember to do a lot of real life studies though! IMO these are more useful, because they haven't been comprehended by another artist. Reason for why this is important, is because you'll develop your own techniques for drawing shapes and form, basically your own style. You'll also gain knowledge of how to build these things up, adding them to your visual library. So instead of doing an artists dinosaur, try finding some reptiles!
