I reworked a bit of the design based on some feedback from the discord and I think it looks much better now. Front view is almost done, I just need to add a few more highlights on certain areas. I think I should have this done just in time for saturday feedback.

And I think I'm finally done with this. Finished it off with a bit of level adjustments and a low opacity gradient map like I usually do.

My randomizer landed on this weird bug today and also told me to draw a priest, here's what I've come up with so far. The aesthetic of the beetle is pretty dark so I decided to kinda make him into some sort of corrupted dark priest character or maybe some sort of cultist. Long baggy robes are something I haven't really studied yet so I'll need to find some decent reference for that before I start my final line work.

I've been trying to do some actual studies the past couple days instead of just drawing more characters. Also forcing myself to do more gesture drawings than I would normally do .
Anyway I've been focusing on breaking down the female body using pictures/other people's artwork that I like. I'm trying to find a way to break it down that isn't too complicated but still describes the forms adequately. I think i'm getting there but it's something I need to keep doing forever...

I also finished cleaning up the lines on my gross bug man. I really like how this is turning out, I haven't really done something like this before.

Couple more studies today. First picture was probably a bad ref, there's definitely some weird anatomy going on around her boobs but I liked the way they did the hips so I used it anyway ! The re-drawn versions aren't quite perfect and they are still taking me a lot longer than I'd like but I suppose that will come with time...

I also fiddled around with some colour on the bug man. I'm not 100% certain I'm happy with them but I'm not really sure where else to go with the palette... the bug only has two colours on it.... I'll ask Marc for his opinion tomorrow.

You are doing great man, about the pose without ref I think making torso smaller would help conveying feminine look because now torso is as wide as hips are, but it is really good already

Hey man!

I suggest you play around with color balance on both these colors. Having a completely desaturated grey is fine under white light, but in most contexts the grey would take on a hue and the red would also be affected.

Bring your two colors closer and your color design will look more cohesive. Fully desaturated greys are pretty boring, especially when grey tends to be very versatile when it comes to picking up ambient hues.

So I added a tiny bit of green into the grey's on the robe and carapace(?) so they weren't completely unsaturated and I think it made a noticable difference. I also took some of Marc's feedback from the stream and tried to add a little bit of a gradient from bottom to top with slightly cooler colours near the bottom. I think I could maybe push that a little further but I don't want it to start looking too much like a totally different colour. Adding a bit of light/shadow and more gold around the top also helped I think.

bit of a change of pace today. I decided to go back to faces and try to do a couple character expressions. My characters are usually rather expressionless so this is probably a good exercise to do. I went a little more cartoony than I normally do but I like the way they turned out. As usual it took me way longer to do these than it probably should have .

ugh I had no motivation today so I was not very productive. I redrew a corn cat for a friend and painted a wet circle. Hopefully I'll be motivated enough to finish shading bug man tomorrow.

Days without motivation sucks, but hey you managed to do something even if it's just a few things. That's good! When i'm not motivated I spend hours rolling on bed hahahaha

And the corn cat is super cute, i'd love to have one as a keychain!

I finished this yesterday but I forgot to post it. I don't think it's my favorite character I've designed but I'm happy with it overall I guess. There are definitely some things I could improve on but I just don't want to keep working on this one much longer .

I started working on a samurai maid today. I'm really liking how it's turning out so far but I think I might need to work on the back leg and some of the dress folds on that side. I might remove the shin guards too, I don't know if I like them.

hey @hyoi. overall I really like the samurai maid. I only mention that because everything seems to flow naturally (the dress doesn't seem to rigid).

However something that stands out to me is the back leg - it seems to stick out slightly too far when viewed from this perspective. (it could just be my imagination). I don't think you need to change the position, I would suggest maybe adding a few wrinkles to the dress in the upper area of the back leg.

Also regarding the shin guards (if you decide to keep them) - I would straighten the ones on the right (left leg) a bit. they seem a bit too curved in comparison to the other pieces of armor you have.

Sorry, I tend to write a lot. anyways hope this helps and cant wait to see final one.
