Now I tried to step back and think about it. Did a few changes to how I was working.

Small changes in the approach and mindset can make some huge differences. All in all, good work on these!

Lot of good work ! I like how the hair flows in the manga. Easy to tell which direction the character is moving.

@Kaz_0 funny thing, Seki's long ponytail (the MC), was originally added to add more flair to the movement and make it easier to tell the flow.

Work continues to be rough these days, which unfortunatly means I have to slow down on my art studies and other arts works for the sake of my own mental space.

Granted, the grind never stops, it just slows down.

Term 4 progress

Wow it seems this term is going to be pretty extensive. Looking at the program ahead there seems to be a LOT to do! Not a complaint, I'm up to continue to learn!

Did a few gestures to keep practicing. Felt like I was starting to get rusty at it.

Can't underestimate the basics!

Also moving to the next term 4 exercice, which is to adapt artists palettes to your own drawings. Granted first I need a few drawings! Started sketching one. Also doubles as character practice for Naoko (that's her name). Been refining her design for a while.

Still got quite a bit to do there.

Inktober

Unfortunatly inktober becomes lower in my priority list, but I still want to contribute with whatever I can muster. Finished the character based on the concept character notes. I'll probably upload this one tomorrow.

Much happier with this one that the previous one!

Next I'll take a look at another video in the characters studies list and come up with another character piece.

Manga

Another page complete! Still on schedule so far. I'll probably complement the first frame later, but found that adding details to the background or movement lines took away from the character (it became too busy), so decided to leave it minimal for now so the focus is on the movements.

Speaking of the manga, I've been watching tutorials and trainings on it, which has gotten me thinking of the future for the work.

I'll probably elaborate further at another post, but as I continue to work and learn how to do it, there are some important lessons and adjustments I'll probably have to do once this current arc is complete.

The arc should complete in 4-5 more chapters though, so there's plenty of time to meditate on it.

Looking good, as always loving these manga pages, you are a machine making these pages! Loving the dynamism and shadows ln the loom piece and i like the design of your character. Only thing I note is the angle of hips/shoulders on the character but I might ve wrong

@snakker if you are refering to the girl sketch, I think it has to do with her "skirt" (not really a skirt, but kinda looks like one) is a tad bit short with a low angle. It wasn't intended to be a skirt, so maybe I'll change things a bit to try to make it clear, or just make it an actual skirt xD I'll double check it later. Or maybe you were refering to something else xD.

Still struggling to push ahead, but figured I would share the progress so far.

Term 4 progress

Working my way through the exercices, in this case, it's using the palette of an artist I like and using it in my drawings.

Always been a fan of Naruto, so first piece is using some characters from the series.

Naoko is partially inspired by Hinata, so the colors fit in really well.

Tried to play around with another palette as well

More to the point of the exercice, I can see why they chose these color combinations. It's interesting to see how they work together. As far as I can tell, these are mostly Analogus colors.

Inktober

Changed my plan for the next piece. I need to work on the "cover art" for chapter 25, so figured I would do it in ink. Still just a sketch, but I think the idea is there.

Manga

One more page! just 2 more to wrap up this chapter.

A heavy week awaits, ah, it is what it is. Nothing to do but grit the teeth and work it out.

That's some great stuff man! I really loved Naoko's design, that said, hinata is one of my favorite naruto characters, so i might be a bit biassed

Thanks @snakker and @Pattu_w! On that note, Naoko's design is a bit basic on purpose as it's intended to be used as a reference for the manga (I need to change those boots though). I do want to make more elaborate pieces once I get a chance. Like adding patterns and texture to the clothes, or try some more elaborate environments and ligthing effects.

Term 4 progress

Wish I took some time to advance more. Still working on taking palettes from artists exercice. And I really should continue to practice the bascis.

Naoko was the first of five.

For now, just sketching for the second of five.

Darkken, the big malo of Nozomu.
Hopefully he seems intimidating enough, even though this is one of the different design versions.

Inktober

Finished this piece! On to the next one. Not sure what the next one will be anymore, I've already kind of deviated from my original plan. Didn't intend to make that many pieces out of this character but it just kinda happened. I'll try something different for the next one.

Some perspectives are intentionally conflicting to hopefully add a sense of chaos (like how the main character's lower leg is almost the size of the guy attacking it) along with a bit of particles to make it feel like there's dust/sweat/blood in the air.

Also decided to use a bit for gray and red to make it pop more. At this point I'm not sure what counts as "ink" digitally, but I like how it turned out!

Manga

And another page of course! Been thinking a lot about how I'll be structuring manga moving forward. I think I need to do some heavy adjustments. More on that another time when I have a clearer head.

And that's it for now.

Feels like I've been heavily slowing down due to life work, gona have to travel a bit tomorrow plus had to deliver some code updates yesterday. Welp, that's how it is. Not a complaint though, it's a good job, it simply takes a bit too long sometimes (like any job I guess).

Nice, loving the dynamic pose and the baddy definitely has that edgy look with all the sharp angles, I wonder if due to the overall shape (like a big ball of muscle) it can be harder to make him look intimidating because if you look at the overall silhouette of everything he is a round die to the delts/traps etc and so are his thighs - still intimidating tho and definitely still conveying that toriyama influence 👍

Thanks! I think you might be on to something. Showed to a friend and the first thing he said was "he needs more spikes!". The hair is intended to give that spiky look, but it's true the body in general is too "round". I'll try to see if I can adjust a few things.

Man, I've been saying how it's been hard at work lately, but then it went and got worse. Doesn't seem like it will slow down for the next few weeks, but at least I should get a bit more time.

Had to take a bit of rest since traveling really took the air out of me. But now that I feel better it's time to continue!

Term 4 progress

Have you ever worked on a piece and looked at it for so long, tweaked it, then tweaked it more until you felt you don't even know what you're doing anymore? yea, that's how this felt.

Though i'm sure it has to do with the state of mind. At one point you just need to let it go and continue. I personally think improvement comes more from iteration than from trying to get the piece "just right".

Still happy how it turned out though.

Base color/design.

The idea is to make Darkken (this guy) feel demonic, dangerous, while still keeping a Sci-fi feeling to it, hence the plates, blue hair and white energy and marks.

Originally started as a SSJ3 turned evil, but quickly became much different as I took notes from Doomsday and Etrigan.

And now we get to have some fun as part of the exercice.

I was told he looked like Boros, so I took the next logical step and used Boros color palettes.

To think this is just the second of five. Still got much more to do.

Inktober

Huh... haven't really had a chance to do anything for inktober... probably won't continue.. not sure, just not enough time

Manga

Last page of chapter 25 done! Still got to wrap up editing, translation, final page touches etc, but pretty much done with this one.

Kinda rushing things a bit, but that's how it is at the moment. It's just a work spike, so things are expected to eventually calm down.
