Another crazy week. Got burned out from too much stuff. Incident at work that resulted in a weekend of overtime, some code development for a system I worked on, other personal stuff, and to top it off, Toriyama passing away.
For a few days it was tough to even get into the mood to practice and draw. It's hard to find motivation or focus when things get heavy.
But that's just life. Grind we must, and so, we got some progress done. Also got some rest, so things are going better.
Life is just a wild ride of ups and downs.
Term 4
@gregorya Those are certainly very interesting pairings! Of course there was little context shared, but it was fun to read the ideas.
@Pattu_w and @patrycja.lerch seem to agree Makena and Seth feel like parterns in crime. I guess those mischievous grins do look similar. As for opposite personalities, I will say that putting opposites together do certainly make things a lot more interesting xD.
Started the lower body video. It's a lot to take it. I thought it would be more simple than the upper body... and it kind of is, but it's still a lot to take in.
Still need to finish the video, take notes and practice a bit what was learned, so in the meantime I practiced a few sketches to keep the hand warm.
Since FF7 Rebirth came out, I was in the mood to draw some of the FF7 characters. Not that I have a PS to even play Rebirth, but eventually i'll get my chance to, once it gets to PC.
I usually do 5 as part of these sketches, but eh, just felt like stopping at 4 this time.
As usual, the point of this excercice is not to do a faithful art rendition, it's mostly for gestures, basic shadows and observation done in as little time as possible. To learn about the energy of gestures and poses to eventually apply it into my own work. So I tried to look for some references that placed the characters in some interesting poses.
I kinda feel Tifa looks a lot like Chun Li here xD
Manga
Finished 2 pages this time! (3 of 9 done for chapter 29) I felt these 2 pages go hand in hand to get the full effect of the sequence.
1) Tried to show how Seki's mood quickly deteriorates by shrinking the frames and playing with some zoom and effects (such as the black gradient). Even wrote the text by hand to give it a bit more punch. It's kind of a pain to do text like that, since when translating you basically have to redraw it again.
2) I tried to make the frame of the bloody face a bit foggy, but not too much. At one point I inverted the tones, but it was gettin a bit TOO creepy. The idea of the frame is not to give it too much of a creepy vibe, it's intended to be a repressed memory. Though I guess the reader could also think it's a type of vision?
3) Had to redraw a few frames, which is why these took longer than usual. The idea near the final frames is to give Seki an expression of shock and pain, like he's not even aware of what he just did.
4) The whole thing is intended to be a peak at some of his past. There's some unspoken context that hopefully communicates to the reader that there's something wrong with Seki, a bit of a hint to what his background may be. I'm sure the reader will formulate some ideas of his own. I wonder what these ideas will be?
That's all for now! Got a lot of work to still do, but I did rest for a bit so I'm back in shape to face another week.
Thanks for stopping by, hope you all have a good week as well! Cheers!
The grind never stops.
