Shading looks nice! May I ask what's your shading process?

I have hree types of process, but for now I am using almost one, sensitive pressure, hard edge basic brush, and black color (I am using only basic brush for now), I start whit shades, tracing it and then going to light whit lighter strokes. After that I refine whit color pick and transition. I ll even do the opposite, refining light whit same brush and white color.

The other two ways are made refining the hard edge whit soft brush and a third method done whit a splash of midtone adjusted whit white strokes as light.

Now I feel I need to study more about values to know how decide which value choose over the grayscale (for now I go from total black to total white)

Thx for the response. So you are saying that your shading process consists of 3 sequential steps or 3 different ways to do your shading? May misinterpret your words, sorry.

P.S. Despite the obvious proportion and misalignment problem, love the shading work you worked on John Wayne face.

Thank for pointing out the errors on this study, I need to work on it !

What I meant is that I am still exploring possibilities and I found 3 main
way to shade, for now I am sticking whit the first one (hard edges).

It's like discovering a new world, the shadong planes, the fat, the mandible movement, the subtle muscle mass on top of that all the expressivity of them ....@_@ now I understand they say portrait it's the most difficult skill to master.
