Very quick exercise today on 2 VP perspective:

Work was crazy last night so I had to work a bit late, which made me wake up late today 😅But was able to squeeze in some drawing.

@Vonschlippe Thanks A LOT for the tracing that you did there. It made me realize a few things that I was missing. Will definitely try these exercises again over the weekend to get them right. I'll try something new based on your suggestions and see how it goes. Thanks again for taking the time to do this! Really appreciate it!

Ever since the gesture drawing lesson that I'm trying, for the very first warm-up of the day to draw from 10 to 20 min of gestures:

Then I moved on to the actual lesson that I'm in currently: perspectives.
So, I followed the tips @Vonschlippe gave me and I think I'm on to something here:

Definitely was able to converge those lines to a single point A LOT better now. Using the line tool on pixel mode (and sometimes with a lot of zoom in + patience 🤣) I was able to trace the lines straight to the converging point. What still intrigues me, tho is that some of them just don't converge to the same point. Another group might converge ENTIRELY to another point, but sometimes it's just not the same as another group. Is it because of the camera or the construction itself?

Moving on, had a little more fun while building cubes with 2 VPs:

So the answer to your question about why some buildings don't line up to the same vanishing point is partially answered in Marc's 3 point perspective lesson, where he discusses rotating an object in the given space.

To rotate a cube that has two vanishing points on the horizon, the vanishing points will slide sideways along the horizon. That's what's happening in some of the buildings you analyzed. If, for some reason, the building is not perfectly parallel to its neighbor, just imagine the building's a cube that's been rotated. The vanishing points will therefore be slightly different, but as a unit, its vanishing point set for this cube should be consistent.

@Vonschlippe: I think I understand what you are saying. If I get this, we are talking about how I can rotate an object on its Y-axis (vertical line) to pretty much whatever turn I want, and that will make its VP to slide across the horizon. Is that it?
Well, that makes sense. You would expect that actual constructions wouldn't have so much turn pern building, but I guess there's a lot that might influence this as well. I'm assuming that this 3-point perspective is further down the road, Term 2 or 3?

I just realized I didn't post yesterday! 😱 I did do some gesture drawing exercises, but most of it was watching Mark's video on the room assignment.

Decided that instead o just watching, Imma follow along the video and copy what he is doing, to try and get used to doing all those guides and shapes, and then right after I'll draw my own room.

Yesterday, instead of study, I decided to attend to a friends request and draw a quick avatar from a photo he sent me. Here is the process:

It sucks, I know. Shadows are all wrong, and color didn't turn out the way I wanted, but it was still something fun and I had a good time

I really like that little avatar thingy you made for your friend. I also believe it’s super important to do other things outside studies and assignments to prevent you from burning out, and it turned out really well too look forward to seeing your sci-fi room finished! Oh I so can’t wait to get to perspective haha, I suck sooo bad, it’s gonna be very interesting and frustrating

The journey goes on. Gesture drawing (that is already not that great) sucked even more today (the 30 sec one I was just not able to finish almost any of them). I think I'm getting to hang up on volume instead of the pose itself. Or I feel like doing something more like an actual full figure instead of the sticky ones. Will probably do some reference drawing over the weekend to get that out of my system 😆

Hello friends,

Decided to push as far as I could in the sci-fi room but couldn't finish all the details. For the time that I have to practice every day, it would take me several more days until it's done, and I feel I want to move forward with other lessons.

Here are the final results of where I got.

And now, will probably start the lessons from Term 2! I'm very excited!

Hello friends,

Today I've started the 2nd term of Art School! Yay!
Still on the visual communication class, so a lot of theory, but was able to practice some gesture drawings a bit.

@mau.wamp thanks a lot! It was a lot of fun to do. Mark adds an insane amount of details to the room, which is awesome, but since I have limited time each day to practice, decided to cut it short and move on :-p

And just for fun, decided to join the "Sailor Moon Redraw" online challenge.

I did multiple variations of her face and still not quite happy with it, but I had fun in the process! Still, a long way to go tho.
