Hello friends,
Just started Photoshop for Digital Production 2 today.
Mark is covering the pen tool. Honestly (and I'll try to say this without sounding too douchy about it, to the best of my ability) I've been working with photoshop pretty much my whole career as a designer but had a hiatus with it from the past 3 or so years because the tools in the industry evolved into another direction. So most of the tools there I'm already familiar with, but at the same time it's nice to watch and see different approaches to it + check if there are any useful updates.
While the video plays and I'm looking for updates, I've decided to start to "draw from reference" series from artists I like. From more cartoonish stuff to really have detailed pieces.
First one is CT (@ ctchrysler on Instagram) that draws OCs a lot, such as the netflix show The Dragon Prince.
My approach here will be:
- Trace above the image and breakdown what is happening there: measures, proportions, etc.
- Use different layers with different colors so I can have a full detailed explanation of what is happening
- Do once more, this time just from reference (not tracing) and see how close it is with the original piece
- Move on to next piece or artist
That's it! What do you think? (From both the approach and the drawing)
Does it make sense? Is this a good way to learn?
Cheers!
