Mermay illustration

I may be a bit late to reply to this, but I love this piece. Was just browsing cause I'm on Marc's course and am at the point on the elements of art. ^^ I love the line work in this, especially in how my focus is drawn primarily to the mermay, then the implied line to the woman holding them. The textures have a lot of weight to them but in the right places - making the focus on the two nicely. The volumes and spacing + structure settles nicely, and I love how you implemented the sense of size and scale especially with the values of the foreground

I like how you did the pattern of the scales too, again, don't mind me. I'm just a beginner appreciating good art while simultaneously doing their course work. xD

Also is that a reflection of the guy in the mirror behind him? cus if so, the reflection is showing his front side which wouldnt work (cus the mirror would see his backside and behind the chair i would think) unless there is another mirror in front of him...?

Hello ! In fact it's a statue of him, behind a railing, several people told me it wasn't very clear, some thought it was a painting, but I never found a way to make it more readable

ohhhh i see, i feel like it should be shinier if it is a metallic statue.. or it should have more wooden texture i think?

or it should be better lit so we can see the lighting bounce off of it

Edit: oh i just realized that the fairy on the right is hugging a smaller fairy.. tho she doesnt look like she is urgently trying to fly away XD
