Hey-yo, my name’s Emrys, I’m 18 and a complete beginner when it comes to art, having little to no experience with art, except for like doodling in the side of books 😌 I bought this art school, cause I’ve always enjoyed Manga and webtoons, and so hope to be able to draw as beautiful an artwork like vagabond and berserk. Anyway, I began some of the assignments today, but got interrupted cause cousins came over, so did not finish the female figure drawing.
I’ll be periodically uploading my progress here, mainly so I can look back on my own progress, but also to receive any criticism, which I am always open to

I did about 3 more similar to these, but less rushed, those got deleted tho.

Day 2 did some cylinders and joints on skeletons then just more loomis.

Started rushing towards end. Legs and arms need work.

Tried one without the grid, legs are iffy probably proportions.

First of all, welcome to art school! So far, your body proportion looks pretty good but I recommend to not focus too much on it as I believe it's better to focus on find key anatomy parts (e.g. legs, body) which is explained at the last part of the video or via gesture drawing. But so far, you are going well with your start!

Note #1: Your ribcage deconstruction looks more of a circle when really it's more elliptical. But the positioning of other parts are accurate.

Note #2: That man side view on your Day 2 paper looks cool!

Cheers friend, happy to be here! And yeah, I should be starting some gesture drawing today. And I can see looking at the figures that I did definitely round out the ribcages, I kinda just turned my brain off at that point, and just forgot that ribcages aren't massive balls, and that I'm not supposed to completely hug the outline 😅

Welcome to the forums! I am really looking forward to seeing your progress! So far it has been great! Keep it up they keep getting better and better. One thing I would advise is take some more time on the cylinder drawings on the curves. The curves on each of the cylinders should be the same angle for each one. Draw the elipse through each one to get a strong understanding of the curve. It will take longer but this is a skill that will keep coming back through the program. Looking great though! Great work! Look forward to seeing more.

Got stuck up by uni work, so didn’t really do anything since April, apart from like a week of gesture drawing in September, and some doodles I did cause I was bored.
Starting it up again and hopefully I can stick with it this time, here’s some old gesture drawings, today’s and some doodles I did.

It looks like you’re making progress in rendering. Do note that the well defined highlights on the female make her skin look wet or plasticky. Also, there’s something off about the left side of her ribcage (her left your right) as it connects with the abdomen? Maybe the overlap outline, I’m not sure

Hey snakker, thanks for the welcome And yeah I didnt really look up any tutorials or anything for the skin shading, I was just kinda reminiscing on some art I've seen and they typically had that kinda wet look, so this was more stylised? I guess rather than like a more realistic shading, I just had a few hours to waste so messed around with some brushes.
And yeah was a bit too focused on the breast shading I didnt notice the ribcage till a fair bit in and cba to change it.
