About the hair strands, I see what you mean now! I'd agree if this was for a personal project. For this app game project we'll see her from quite a distance and I was asked to keep things a bit simple.

The cover you did indeed feels like a comic cover, However I feel the pose is a bit weird mostly on the upper body section, it seems like she's about to fall, the feet/legs are in point thought also the hands very good job!

Nice painting! It has a very traditional, water painterly feel to it!
There is a lot of washed out grays, which I would've tried to avoid, but it works nevertheless!

Your house-elf's good! Anyway I would try to balance the face symmetry a bit more for your character! It feels a bit off for the left side. But maybe that's just me
Also the room perspective's not so interesting to the eye at all, with 2 straight horizontal & vertical lines (that feels a bit isometric actually). You should try to set it up to give your character a bit more appeal (sorry for the middle english ).

@lemox Thanks! That's good feedback. I did try to flip him to check perspective and face, but I feel you're right about that. The background is indeed quite boring.. For the Char Design Challenge they told us not to put much/any work in the background, but I should've picked either nothing or something more interesting. ^^

Simplest things are sometimes the right things to do! Look at these and you'll see there's not so much tricky background behind their characters

A sampled color from your character onto the background (or a complementary one) with a radial gradient should do the work (you could emphasize the shadow effect and deformation to keep your visual mood intact).

Did you ever try to work with color balance on Photoshop when you're finished with an art piece? Sometimes it really makes your art stand out a lot more too
