I think I am going to take the Dark side. Not that my personal values are related to it but rather in a spirit of defiance. In games I have always liked to play for unpopular sides and fractions.

My character is going to be The General of The Dark Army.

Some guides for the character:

• Powerful, maybe heavy in appearance.
• Humanoid, not a beast.
• Intelligent and cunning.
• Aristocratic. No ugliness, living dead etc.

I think of a character that represents not an absolute evil, but rather "part of that power which eternally wills evil and eternally works good".

Great work already, good thoughts on the concept. I like the horned silhouettes a lot. The preliminary for the final illustration looks a bit busy, but it's still early. Looking forward to more!

@badboys9805, @ranarh, @oswea, @eigenspace, Thank you for your comments and feedback! I still haven't made up my mind about any particular variant. I tend to prefer heavier silhouettes like 22, though there maybe some good findings in other versions too. I would like not to exploit already ubiquitous horny motives too much or at least try to treat them in some original way.

There are so many participants that I fail to keep up with all the updates. I have to focus on my own work and feel blinded to what is going on around on the forum. That eliminates a big portion of fun of the contest for me but I have so little time left.

Here are my recent exploration on the character design. There is very little time left for other stages of character concept, including illustration so I have to make a decision about overall design and move on. I would highly appreciate any feedback.

Damn, nice armor concepts. ^^ Well, some are ludicuos, but still cool and distinct. looking forward to see what colors you decide to experiment with. ^^

Looks like you will have a hard time choosing among equally great concepts. If I would be forced to choose, I would choose probably first (maybe with armor headpiece for the horse from the second) or fourth (I think flag from the second would serve here well). Really cool designs and idea. Of the last sketches, I like the design of 1, but maybe combined with the sense of movement from 2, 'cause the first one feels a bit like a statue (depends on whether or not you're going for it, I guess). Can't wait to see him in all his glory

@sparksofdawn @jonatan-moonchild @snakebearer, Thank you very much for your comments! I do feel inclined toward no. 1 as well. I like some brutal heavy feel in it. But I also like something in no 2. I was wondering how those design may look in illustration and tried to incorporate them in composition. Here is what I have got:

Have you tried his head from 1 with the arm outstretched like 2a? I like the head better turned - seems more authoritative somehow.

Thank you, @Acolet! Well, I feel that movement of his hand doesn't work well with the overall busy image. I tend to think that with all the pikes and flags moving around, the figure of the general should be calm and static. So most probably I will go for variant 2. But still it may worth trying head turned toward the "sun".

I definitely feel that no. 2 fits better into illustration composition than other designs and considering time constrains I decided to move on with it.

For now I played around with colors for illustration. I do understand that it is pretty rough and character colors are not certain but I just want to have a feeling of overall mood.
