Here's my initial thumbnails and work in progress on my character, it's Michael the chief of angels, the one who won the war in heaven and banished Lucifer to earth.

Four more options, I'm glad I did so many designs, otherwise I would just settle for whatever.

Now it's time to chose a final and refine a concept sheet, my hope is to have at least 6-7 days for the final illustration which should be plenty of time.

So I'm down to the final choices and it's where I need your opinion guys, which ones you like and why? remember that it's supposed to be an angelic being fighting for the light.

So, i really like the wing design in d, i think it's quite unique. but i like the armor of b the most, the pauldrons really speak to me, y'know? also it looks like it would make a good light source, lighting up both sides of a helmet giving a definite "badger" portrait lighting, which is what movies use to make things look dramatic, masculine, and fierce, which can also work for a angelic hero with the right environmental context.

Did a bunch of sketeches for the illustration, picked the middle one as it has the most energy and impact. 5 days to go, totally doable, I've done illustrations for clients for less time!

Becareful here, your thumbnails read better then your current WIP. Perhaps take a step back from the screen and squint to see what elements works in the thumbnails and why, and which ones that are weaker in your current comp.

Progress, I feel like the main character's pose is still lacking some energy, would love some suggestions.
I will have to work more on the pose, should have done that before adding the armor though but good thing it's just linework.

This one is tough, but nothing impossible, I changed the pose of the archangel completely to something much more dynamic and epic, I like this way much better than before.

So the idea here is that the archangel is biding Lucifer for the thousand year imprisonment, if you were wondering about the black chain.

I blurred the image to see if it works on the very basic value state and it does, so I can start rendering.

I've also opened the close characters hand, just looks better that way and feels more intense I think.

id crop out the second guy. your main guy and the chained guy are competing for the largest shape for importance. something like this is all about your character

Thanks Ted, I've considered this before But at the end I've concluded that I want the storytelling element in there, it also adds to the WOW factor which is one of the criteria we will be judged on, besides even if I would chose to change the composition I would have to redo the whole thing and that would put me on missing the dead line.

More progress, the black and white phase is nearly complete, next update will be color comps.
