CONCEPT SHEET

ILLUSTRATION

Isaiah is an ancient temple guardian who turned against his Gods. He is a powerful warrior as well as a sly manipulator: his contagious magic affects the mind, causing confusion, doubt, uncontrollability of thoughts, which makes his opponents more vulnerable to his attacks, also it often results in turning them against their allies.

HIS BRIEF BACKSTORY: Isaiah used to be a guardian of a temple of a now forgotten era. The fold praised the Stars as deities and their guardians were ones who beared magic believed to be a gift of the Gods, given to serve and guard the Temple.

Isaiah turned against their Gods. With finding out how his sacred magic could be manipulated, he became corrupted, wielding enough power to destroy the temple and wipe out/turn the faithful within. Now, he roams between the ruins as he became a walking representation of his doubt, hatred and anger.

Hello everyone!

I'll be creating a character supporting the DARK side. Something more “ancient evil”.

I did some rough brainstorm sketches while having a basic idea of what I want him to look like and focusing mainly on his armor for now.

Thank you for the feedback @tbrk! I'm glad you like that one!

Thank you really much @Mellowochi!

I tried to finalise his design and colors. In the end, I decided to go with my favorite variation, though changed the lights rather to a more greenish-turquoise color.

I also decided to changed the way the cloth is attached to the one around his waist as I felt like it might would be a bit too much. I kind of like it better this way, but it's a detail I'm still not 100% sure about. What are your opinions regarding this: shall I leave it or was it better before?

I think it's improved! I like how you went with the green light but kept the all earthy tones in the clothing. I think the green does really well as the biggest highlight color for earthy tones! I'm not sure if it will work, but, exploring using more greens in what you already have might make it even better. Just a possibility though.

I'm glad you think so @Mellowochi, thank you! Good suggestion; I'm currently working on finishing his reference sheet and added a motif to his armor where I could add more of the highlight color. It won't be too much but might be just enough.

25 days later

After a little break, I finally started doing the illustration!

My concept is Isaiah powerfully standing before the ancient temple he used to be a guardian of. Smoke and his corrupted magic spreads around him while he is ready to strike, probably a last killing blow on his victim from which perspective we see the scene.

Feel free to let me know what you think!

Nice work, great additions with the cog-wheel details! The lantern with the green light suits the dark theme best, good decision. I also like the dynamics of your first illustration draft, so keep it up!
