Story:
The young woman’s eyes flickered in her deep sleep, responding to a sound of metal. As she slowly opened her wide luminous aquatic eyes, forms took shape, and she saw the clear outline of the old man silhouetted by the firelight of his forge. A wave of surprise went through her, feeling the unfamiliarity of all that was surrounding her. “Where am I?” she spoke out loud in a language that sounded alien even to herself. The man spoke in a foreign language, and yet she understood him perfectly!
“You are in a safe place. We found you in the Dunes of Twilight. We brought you here to recover from your coma. You have been here two weeks. You were alone, and we brought everything that you had on you. Do you remember anything from your past?” he asked her with a gentle curiosity.
“No. Nothing.” She replied and her hand went to her neck. Strange. Felt something against her skin with a slight ticking vibration. He explained, “You were wearing this when we found you. It was zeroed out.” He brought a reflection disc for her to see and continued, “We tried to remove it since we thought your were in coma because of it, but without success... Whenever we try to remove or break it, all we get is that electric shock from this device."
"I assume you don't remember your name too. Would you mind me if we call you Rika?In our language it means Eternal Ruler. It felt right for you.” Without waiting for a reaction from the girl, the man said "Welcome to our land, Rika"
Rika didn’t take long before to integrat with this new life. She could remember nothing of her past, but it didn’t stop her from adapting to the customs of this newfound land. One night, walking the hills near the forger’s domain, she sensed immediate danger. Her body reacted more quickly than her mind, and in one quick leap she found herself flying in the air, lunging against a wild beast that sprung onto her from the dark shadows! It was an instant kill. She stood back shocked, but felt as if she had done this before! Her body was a repository of dormant skills, and in her sharp mind, she made the association…”I was once a warrior!” the thought flashed in her mind.
Time went by, and Rika became a kind of revered heroine in this village that salvaged her. She became a protector of the children who would run to her whenever someone was going to hurt them, and she gained a reputation for championing the underdog, the oppressed and the abused, never asking for anything in return, and when one night, the village was attached by a horde of looters from the nearby hills, she fought epically, and singlehandedly slew 20 of those wretched attackers. On her neck, something clicked. 1. Shone brightly in an electric blue.
When she saw her neck brace later, it hit her. With every act of salvation, a digit shifts from zero to one. And so…with every act of bravery, Rika felt closer to an undefined goal, that she did not fully understand.
Soon, she went off on a quest to discover the planet and try to recover the missing pieces of her memory that felt like an eternal puzzle. She was a vigilante who fought against all injustice, even when her soul felt the twinges of fear and confusion. In time, the fiercer she grew in her skin, and acts, the mysts of her cobwebs lifted and she began to remember things…
Another planet. Other landscapes. Different people…family? Did she have a family out there somewhere? What happened to her to land her in what felt eons away from home? Dreams would come in the night, so vivid, they almost merged with her reality.
The new planet was sordid and not at all as peaceful as the village that had found her. Strife and Oppression were found everywhere. The people were inclined towards violence and crime, and her new life brimmed over with the blood of all the tyrants that she split with her sword. Her companion. Her other arm. All the while, the electric blue line on her neck, like neon pearls, glowing “11001101001”….until one day, “11111111110”, each 1 digitally unlocking a piece of her mind, flooding her with memories.
Near total recall came in waves, drowning her in emotional turbulence. Daughter of a race of warrior kings, she remembered her father falling. Arguments by a tribal senate over her youth and inability to inherit the throne and govern. There was her uncle…she HATED him…nausea would overtake her at thoughts of this man…why?...Soon she remembered he was the cause of her banishment from her home!
“I am being tested!” no sooner did she think this, than she realized how alone she really was. Everyone thought she was being tested, but she knew her uncle had other plans for her! He wanted her downfall, to claim the throne for himself and his line! She knew by instinct how he would destroy all what her father had built! And she was NOT GOING TO ALLOW IT!
A final battle was rearing it ugly face on the new planet. It was the battle of FINAL DAYS. And when the day of doom began, and carnage swept the land, Rika went to fight the lord demon of this massacre, and she knew that he was nothing more than a final test of her will. An emissary of her uncle, a lowly spy! What hurt the most was how many were killed and sacrificed in this test that she was fighting through, and the extent of the ruthlessness in the heart of her uncle stabbed her to the core, and gave her will the fire of victory!
I WILL WIN!
She did.
She rid the planet of it’s darkness and the row of 1’s glowed uninterrupted.
A great shadow loomed in the sky…it split open to reveal a grand luminous mothership vibrating and humming with energy...light descended and bathed her in photons, beaming her up…
She found herself surrounded by the faces she realised she knew! The senate gathered around her, applauding her voracity, bravery, tenacity and might! She had become the Warrior Queen…The Eternal Ruler! Her old tattered clothes fell off from her glowing skin, and she was now dressed in a second skin, silver and close, its metallic shine brighter than the 3 moons of her planet!
She ascended to take her place…but she knew…it was still not over…Not while her uncle still lives.
