Gosh I've been having so much trouble with the forum resizing the image. Touchwood I think it is sorted now.

Concept Sheet -

The forces of darkness have been preying on the people of Ancient Egypt. The Gods became troubled at the devastation and decided that they must take action. Sekhmet, the lion headed Goddess of war and her husband Ptah, the God of Creation sent one of their demi-God children to rule and to fight for the innocent. Sekhet, who is known as "Sekhmet's Pride" is beloved by all. Her battle prowess is unrivaled and she is a fair ruler. This brave, lion-hearted warrior became instrumental in turning the tide of the war between the light and the dark in Ancient Egypt.

Allegiance: Light

First time posting, I'm desperately hoping I can complete this by the deadline. Really wish I'd seen this contest sooner!

Some of my initial sketches :

My initial thoughts were to create a character who is part lion, whether that be lion headed or bodied. I tried both and ended up leaning towards lion bodied. Firstly, it isn't something that actually showed up in ancient Egypt so (hopefully) more creative. Secondly in the back story, though I'm not sure I'll get this into the final illustration, I had this idea of the forces of darkness perverting the rules of death and mummification and I was seeing the "enemies" as wildebeest headed mummies, as I thought they had the potential to look really demonic (in fact I almost wish I'd gone with the dark side and creating a villain in this vein!) I wondered if the Egyptian gods would be a bit offended at creating "mortals" in their own image, in case it might damage their reputations, making them less unique as it were. Also if the enemies have animal heads I was hoping for some interesting contrast between the two sides.

I am still wondering a bit whether Sekhet should in fact be a bit more anthropomorphic, so not wholly lion bodied, but maybe legs/claws of a lion while mostly human otherwise, but I'm really concerned with lack of time for experimenting.

A contest like this might not be the best time for pushing myself so hard (I feel very out of my depth tbh) but I need to push myself at some time right?

Mostly thinking about outfits and weapon ideas today.

Not sure if it's clear but 6 is meant to be folded wings and 4 is the lion legs on a human torso. Might be a bit OTT to have a winged lion who is also part human but I guess they are meant to be a hero of the light who fights evil so ... A little ridiculousness might be acceptable. I think at this stage I wouldn't backtrack on the lion body but I thought I owed it to myself to experiment at least.

I actually thought the gauntlet idea was kind of cool, but all the times I tried to incorporate it, I felt it was a bit forced and didn't really go.

I also considered making her a sphinx cat rather than a lion, and although I liked how it added to the "Egyptian" feel, I decided that it wasn't really powerful enough, and a lot of why I went for part lion in the first place was to get the "noble" feeling. Which I don't think a sphinx would quite get... Still experimentation is good.

Spent a bit too long on trying to add a bit more detail to the army today.
