Did some more sculpting of the shapes and made the lighting more dynamic. I've been doing a few painting practices these past few days to 'warm up' as it has been a few months since I last painted. And colors are my biggest weakness...

I gotta be very mindful of how I'm going to approach this painting, otherwise everything will just be a disaster

If you keep doing those warm up and have some good references for the colors, you're gonna be fine! Don't worry this is going to amazing!
It's just in black and white and it's already really really good!

I got the line art done and starting to color my character up.

Right now I can see that there's some problems around the area of her feet so I'll be fixing it up soon. I also decided to put back the little tiara and crown back on her head as that feels much better than just having two horns sticking out.

I'm going for one last push of the design, trying to incorporate more musical instruments. I had a long look at my own thread and the last result didn't quite fit the description that I wanted for it. It just looked more battle, attack type then a musical bird.
So here's what version no.2 looks like

Here's the idea that I'm exploring for the illustration piece.
This is a study of Miv4t's composition and lighting style. I just love the mood and emotion that his works has and hope to be able to do the same for the illustration piece.

As I'm doing these comps I'm also trying to improvise along the way to see how my character will fit into each composition. I'm still having some trouble finding a pose that is both emotionally expressive and yet shows off the silhouette at the same time.

I'm dealing with the exact same issue with my competition piece. XD
I think most of your thumbs work if you just move her or crop it a tiny bit differently.
I believe that the main thing that prevents you to see what pops is her relation to the frame. >.<
If that makes any sense. XD

Ah thanks!! Yep makes perfect sense, having enough space in the composition to allow the main subject matter to breathe is crucial and it's still a challenge for me.

More refinements before going into the concept sheet. I'm finally happy with how the torso part is looking.

Alright so here's a quick update, spent the whole day on this, it was the baroque motifs that took me the most time. I kinda had to wreck my mind to make sense of the rhythm. They are rough but I think that's enough for an illustration.

The major forms are a little harder to read because of all the dense secondary details but I'll clean them up to make the design read better when I do the colors tomorrow.

Windows crashed when I was working on the original concept sheet and the original file got corrupted so I had to redo (kinda) everything. Luckily I had this low res jpeg that I posted on here so I just traced over it. Too bad I feel that I've lost all the energy in the original sketch but at least I didn't lose everything.

Now I can finally work on the illustration piece

Here's a rough sketch for the illustration piece, I'm saving a copy of the psd every hour or so in case windows crash on me again. I've added a halo to her design but I'm not so sure about how fitting is it for her design.

Anyways thank god for the extended deadline, more time for me to get things to look better.
PS. I'm having some banding issues when I use the gradient tool, it isn't really an issue as I will be painting everything by hand but it is a slight annoyance. Any suggestions on how to solve it?
