These are pretty cool so far! Maybe you could design him/her after predatory plants or a steampunk design could be cool too, but that is too soon to call. Its up to you what you do.

Some sketches to build a little more the world around the main characters (better to right click for zoom in or else it's not easy to distinguished things ^^').

@alexbrewer2238 Thank you ! I don't really have predatory plants yet... my world is a mix of Sci-fi and Fantasy (a bit of Jurrasic park, anthropomorphic creatures and robots...flowers and trees are a mix of mechanical parts with some strange floating substance (don't ask me what it is haha)).

But I need to dig more...I

Sounds like a fun plan. World building can be a very effective way to develop a character

Not sure if it's what I want...
Anyways I have some silouhettes for Tarja clothings (yes I changed (a little her name) and Moo-kai is Noqi now).

Nice work so far. I personally enjoy the style on the far left.
As far as designs go, I like 1, 2,6 and 7
The initial sketch on the far left with the mask is cool as it.
The tribal tattoos really helps the design stand out and give her more character.

Next step is sure the mask and tatoo designs.
I'd maybe do other designs for the costume...there is still something missing in my opinion...but I'm not sure to give her a weapon - she will probably use magic powers and such (I'm also seeing her wearing different masks for different abilities or else...).

For Noqi...I'm not sure with the scepter...

BUT...I still need to find a pet or something.
Maybe another cross over/ fusion with animal species.
A tiger/ wolf...I don't know I still need to dream about it haha

Tatoos (probably shoulder and back)

I think that's a bit too dark (for the mask thingy)...will try to change things along the road.
Just hope I could begin soon my artwork...I need to work on the environment(s) first.

Some creepy and cute stuffs...
All the pets exists (more or less) but I have done (lot) of mixes/fusions.
Oh and the pet is only for the little girl : Noqi (I really have to find a better design for her...kids are so difficult to draw !!!).

To be honest...I was more thinking about number 1, (maybe 4 (need to change his face) & 6 (need to change his body - he only could swim)), 7 or 8.

Especially because they are more cute than the others.

! like 1 the most in its base form, but i think anatomically number 3 looks the best but you could just add the tails and head from 1 onto the body of 3 would look pretty cute.

For the pets I like 1,3 and 7. 4 and 8 are cool as well. I like the fact they have wings. The multi tails from 1 is an awesome idea. I recommend mixing and matching the designs together.
As far as instruments, I like 2 the most. Depending on what song she plays, it affects the mask she forms maybe.

Man this is a great idea for songs changing the masks (or maybe should I only stick with tatoos on her face to simplify things ?...still not sure).

But yeah I'll maybe do other pets...mixing things again ^^
I also like the 1...but not so much his head (but the tails are interesting sure) and 7 (a submission from last year was a big cat like this too (but yeah I have mixing a dog face and shapes to the cat haha).
The 4...there is a lot of species into it...but I really need to change some things (erasing his ears for instance!)
6 is real sort of fish , Axolotl- Mexican dogfish ->

But yeah I have put sort of flower around his neck instead of his long spiky "things"
8 is cute too and I like his wings...but again I need to change/mix other stuffs with...maybe next time I should try to put Noqi on the pet to see if it's working or not at least !

Otherwise the drums instruments are made for Noqi.

Cool ideas so far, everything sounds interesting. Otherwise don't consume all your ideas in one design, choose wisely

Do you have any idea how Tarja and Noqi connected together? Maybe this is important for both, maybe they are dependent somehow?

For the cloth design ask yourself, what Tarja really needs. Is she an agile character, so maybe “5“ wouldn’t work because of the skirt would trouble her while running/climbing. Is she kinda tanky, so give her more armor stuff. Someone told me „everything a character wear is for a reason“, this sentence blows my mind and it makes sense (for me it does ^^)

Just updated my main post with Moodboard and changed my story.
Still probably a bit mysterious...

@frankenstejin - Sure I try my best to choose wisely...but I think I will jump soon into artwork thumbnails...I have the feeling I'm already thinking too much ^^' (I mean about the world, species and else).

For the armor stuff...I already tried on Tarja silhouettes and it was not really working (although maybe just some jewelry "armor" like wristband/strap could be nice around her hands and feet...But again I should think "out of the box"...trying to push my "limits" and "boundaries" about design...

The other reason I don't really want too much armor...you already said it : I want Tarja agile (and climbing stuffs...I guess my moodboard says it ^^).
The other thing about Noqi is that she is not totally "human"...but I like to keep it mysterious for the moment

I have the same problem with my character design. Well... currently I have only thumbnails and working on her design, it's not feeling right at the moment. I should think outside the box too and don't limit myself with too much guidelines.

ps: you really should play horizon, it's beautiful

Nice explorations! I think something like Horizon Zero Dawn, The Last Avatar, and any tribal-esque exploration could help bring relatable insight. Something real and believable, yet whimsical, seems like it could go a long way for your character!

Don't worry if you're late you have time. But I suggest you to make 5-10 thumbnails before you start your actual sketches, it really helps saving time and come up with a better composition. Keep it up!
