Just blocking out the body and head. Also..Lions look so weird without their manes! >__> Well not really, they just look like female Lions. I borrowed a bit of the eye-shape from the Cheetah. Their eyes are bigger and because of that you can really make the face a bit more expressive.

Things to do: Open the Mouth,
retopo the head hands and feet (maybe work more on feet)
I don't really need the body as it will all be covered by cloth and armor. But good to have it as a base anyways.
Start blocking out armor pieces.

So Like I predicted, I have a lot on my plate, but i am trying to make time for this. But, I did manage to block out most of the character and start detailing the face a bit as well.

Once I am finished I will work on removing a lot of the symmetry.

So I was tossing and turning all night...Not really...because I was not sure i liked the dreadlocks. I didn't like the overall shape and layout...so I tried something new. I sketched in a new shape, drawing some proper reference from both the lion's mane shape and from the dreadlocked men in the reference images.

That...felt better to me...also, It would mean less individual locs to deal with. I also think I may have a name for this guy...perhaps.

I would not mind some feedback on how it is going so far.

definitely liking the thicker dreadlocks, gives it more of a diff vibe than the regular lion mane
the things i see is that the skin on the nose is all wrinkled up like hes snarling, but the rest of his face doesn't reflect that same emotion

and possibly look over the length of the muzzle, i kinda feel like its approaching canine territory

and all the sculpted fur is all one size, should have a good mix of big med and small furs that has a flow and direction

@Ooyoo Hey! Many thanks for the feedback, that really helps a great deal! I am glad you mentioned the face, I was having that "what is wrong" feeling each time I looked at it...(like with the dreadlocks).
As for the fur, yeah the fur is from a brush and I will eventually sculpt over it to break up the uniformity....IF I end up keeping the sculpted fur at all. But those diagrams help a whole bunch.

Been bashing away at this today. I decided that the armor needed some more "Presence" Something to take it up a notch, so i added these floating pieces to the shoulders.

I also got to work on the ridiculous Keytar Machinegun thing...He plays it and it shoots music...somehow >__>

And Here is the ridiculous Keytar. It's weird...but cool...kinda. I feel like it needs more details to tie it to the character. but...Time is short...so I will see what I can do >__>

OH SNAP! Just saw that the deadline got extended until March the 5th! YUSS!! Rubs hands together I love you guys :3

So...I had this idea and would not mind some feedback. I remade the face, but I am torn as to whether or not it works. Something about the original Lion face is bothering me. So I tried this.

Looks awesome so far
In my opinion the original face looked better. The transition between the snout and the face part could probably be a lot less curvy and the snout itself could probably be just a tad bit smaller. But other than that he looked like an actual animal in armor.
Without wanting to offend you, the first thing that came to my mind after seeing the new version was, "oh no, someone has hit the poor lion in the face with a shovel". Reminds me too much of the old ThunderCats cartoon.
Those are my opinions so take them with a grain of salt

I liked that you went with a more humanoid face. Feels like it fits the character better. The first one was too close to the actual animal and made me think of a character out of the old Robin Hood cartoon. This new face has more of a fantasy vibe. I think it was a good move.

@mrjar0 LOLOLOL...that analogy made me laugh quite a bit. You have a very valid point. But I am still torn. I think that because the lion face was the original, the new one looks weird...I may go back and make the original face a bit more stylized. But Thanks for the feedback.

@timdan Thanks for the feedback. It being too close to the actual animal was kind of bothering me a bit I think.

I now have one vote for and one vote against the new face. So I am still torn. I will work on the weapon a bit more in the mean while, then get back to Lion-Guy and decide on the face.

Ok...So I reworked the face to something that I feel a lot better about. I feel that going with a more stylized lion face works better for this...So it was a mix between the two faces,,,sort of :3

I finally got around to texturing. There are times I feel a bit dejected. I see such great entries and they are inspiring, I feel like i am pushing against a wall...THAT wall, that creatives often run into...I am still going to push through and try to do my best given the time I have.
At the very least I will have another piece for my portfolio.
Had an issue with my computer and am keeping my fingers crossed. Just some shots of where I am at now.

Tomorrow I will get to posing and setup the final render.

A fun aside: There was an earthquake here today >_> That is always fun.
