Term 7
Been working on this personal project as soon as I stop working on term 6 due to rushing to learn and jobless condition, so I try to use most of my time to practice and keep observing my pro and con so I can either focus or change different approach. With the release of weekly schedule, I will try follow the schedule starting Term 7.

By the way, my currently personal project for this course name
Paroxysm - Flower Among Sand
This take place tiny speck of dust of distant galaxy, most of the design will be heavy influence by Roman architecture with slightly Medieval era and Mars environment. The discovery of special element Paroxysm lead to disaster today.

Below I will put some info that I do so far, the following its early design that decide to scrap some because it does not convey emotion, so a lot have to redesign.

Took awhile to design Protagonist because I have to include some of the point in the design while using this opportunity to study material.
1. Simple shape
2. Terrifying
3. Flower element (Imagine flower extinct so the only documentation human have is stone tablet). I use Rose as base shape for the leg part.
4. Material Consideration to the environment (Mars as reference).
illustration only consider after done design character, so composition kinda sucks tbh.

I broke my only cable to my drawing monitor, so I have to wait for new one to arrive.
While I'm waiting for my cable, I will put some of my work before I broke my cable, and end the Term 7. Now I'm starting Term 8 in Prop Design, Marc actually provide more knowledge to apply composition to the design, made me felt "I should have start Term 8 sooner". But deep down I know experience is what important toward the journey. Anyway, below is some of my design related to 'Personal Project'.

World Settings:
This might counter what I learn, I write the world settings and let ChatGPT touchup the word to much more archaic form for fast change (just the World Settings and Summary, other are write by myself, not that anyone will read anyway).

Character Design:
During the period from my previous post, I redesign again 2 side character and protagonist. While drawing, I try to blend some artstyle hoping to hit the 'hook'. Not so glamourous but here it is. One thing I notice when drawing character, draw the character looking above space, it will hook quite well. (You can see the horse like line art did not finish, thats when I broke my cable huhu)

Illustration:
I want to paint a definitive illustration to describe what the world experiencing, so I paint a lot only to discard the paint. At the end I say screw it, and pick one that show 'actor and actress' and background so it show what cataclysmic they are facing.

Conclusion:
I should start Term 8 sooner because Marc actually address what should be looking at to design. Although I felt exhaust and disappointed of my result, but deep down I understand it's the process and experience that we are accumulating so we can prove our result.

Term 8
Finally the cable arrive after 1 month, I'm waiting for the Huion 3 in 1 cable so there is no alternative (apparently I must have the cable to power, and my desktop do not have DP Alternate).

Anyway the cable arrive so I'm finally happy and continue to practice immediately.

This whole month I was playing Jedi Survivor and oh boi the environment is such a bless that every view can be use as reference, so I take a lot of picture from the game as study material. Save a bunch of reference from Middle East for reference too (especially Petra, Jordan). I save so much reference the mood board are unable to put too many so I put as much as possible and add something so it feel original hehe.

Below is what I have done in 1 week follow some of advice from video (I will draw the treasure box 'eventually'). From block-up to render little bit, I start the study/practice right away for the first weekly study companion. You might notice some indifference from mood board to practice because I keep pushing my memorization.

Finally I start my drawing for some of prop for my portfolio.

The weapon and equipment prop IS DONE. The next one will be architecture and environment design. I dont think the above are enough so I might continue later according to Study Week Companion.

I have list my submission for the portfolio pass up which I have 30 list to submit so the prop session might need to compress much to very few image.

Term 8 Week 2
Continue following the Weekly Companion footstep (except not thoroughly following), I study paint 2 environment exterior and nature with 1:30 hour of painting. Gotta say the picking color without eyedropping is hard as I have to consider keep getting trick by my brain and squishing my eye. I only use hard brush so the result kinda ehhh.

Next up is using 3D as a base to paint and design. I often use Blender software so as a get go of tool. Shape some of the basic shape, do some cloth and wind physics, small tune some weather, white material override render, object ID render (ClownPass). Then use 2 brush tool to paint.

Term 8 Week 3
Continue on Study Weekly Companion, I have paint 4 environment, nature, interior for practice approximate 1:30 - 2:00 hour per painting. One day one painting and eventually reach the goal, each time I indulge myself with more brush option. On top of that I start gesture drawing since I stop 6-7 month ago.


Finally, I have done list out thing I need to draw for final project (My grace its 30 item, will pick out the best for 15).

Week 4 & 5
Week 4
Hi, hope u all doing well. In week 4, the weekly study guide wrote take this time to work on my portfolio. So I started paint the one of the environment and put slightly story telling to the canvas. I first create version nearer canyon size to fit in some story element(building in the corner trying to stick the canyon) but its felt off, so I decided to "push" the canyon far away.

Which one do you like? I personally like the canyon nearer but its just composition felt off.

I have created some character fashion design as well but its not finalize yet, I was thinking about adding some background later for eye catching presentation but right now just show some the design

Week 5
In week 5, Weekly study guide instructed to paint 1 fantasy creature and 1 portrait fit to my world.
Creature
I decide to use this opportunity to draw one of enemy creature during one of their peaked performance as illustration, at one point I have to turn off the timelapse recording because the file as exceed 2.5GB. At first I draw the creature at the left side, then I flip to right side and actually felt better in composition but didnt catch the important feature the creature have.

So which one do u like? creature in left side or right side?

Finally
For character portrait, I paint one of the character in my story where she is environment specialist but at the same time its introvert-ish like to stay in close environment, portrait probably take place when she promote to Sage-level. Added some face scar and crown for some story telling too.

I use one of the actress as face and eye position as reference, and add ton of element to kinda not look like the actress, not look the same person anymore. If you recognize the actress, then.... well.... good to u I guess.

I draw line art and just bucket paint it to create base color so I can magic wand it easily. I do Flower Design as final because there is so many flower, I might just straight paint it without drawing line art.

Admonition - Version 1 is very crowded, it's a bit hard to read it. On 2 you have clearer focus on this creature/building and it is easier to read. Nice design

Worm of memory - I prefer the left side. I just like the darker mood created. On the other piece creature is more lit it doesn't seem right to me but it is just a preference. I love creature design
Why this looks so good when flipped when I flip everything is distorted

Portait is also nice! I like these colors

Yea my brain will immediately think distorted look horrible and not doing good enough most of the time when I flip canvas. This is the only one drawing in my entire drawing life so far that flipped canvas actually click.

Well, i don't know nothing about composition, but i will tell ones i liked the most for added confusion lol. On Admonition i actually liked the version 1 and on Worm of Memory i liked more on the right side.
But i really don't know nothing about composition, so if i where you, i would pick the exact opposite of what i just said .

Week 6
Hey how u doing, hope u stay healthy as always.

Final week of Term 8, I decided to do everything early possible because next Monday I have Japanese Language Exam so I try to push as much as possible.

Sooooo the final list of week 6 is 10 Head From Imagination representing Character from my personal project, but it didn't indicate different person or can be same person (Thanks Marc hehe). Sooo I take this opportunity to practice character facial expression.

At the same time, I resketch protagonist design and armor, and a good boy. Still have some difficulty to choose his armor because I stumble a few problem.

Hair
I was thinking of picking far right for much messy hair like a hobo. Let me know what you think.

Armor
I decide to use Doom guy and Wo Long DLC Armor as reference pose and maybe lighting reference (Pic included).
I really like the right side but one problem occur to me is the armor too busy, I was thinking reverse 1/3 which is 2/3 method to shine head and chest. But then it felt redundant because like Marc say, not many people will straight focus on leg or hand. So I decide to decrease some armor piece for 1/3 method and easier coloring maybe. Let me know your impression as this will serve well between us and everyone.

These faces are quite unsettling... Good job!

As you go further from your focal point (usually face) you want to decrease the amount of details. Also you may want to have a less detailed place where you can rest your eyes'. But it can vary depending on artist some have details everywhere and some don't. Also I am type of person who will almost immediately focus on legs but not many people do it

I like this armor design. To me it is not too much but it can change once you add colors. If you feel that it is too busy you can group some parts. For example less plates on leg armor.
