Sprint Retrospective #8 - 10 of 2024 - (25/3/24 - 5/5/24)
Hola! It's been nearly 2 MONTHS!? Damn, I was out for so long that I didn't have the time to actually sit down in my bedroom and use my digital tablet. So this is where I was:
- China from 27/3 till 11/4
- Work trip from 19/4 till 23/4
- Family Trip (due to Anzac Day which is an Australia national public day) from 25/4 till 28/4
Don't need to calculate but I'm pretty sure I have barely enough time to do some digital drawing at all lol (Between China and Work trip, I have to come back and get updated which involves working at some delayed work at nights)
Anyway, lemme provide some update on key works.
TD Commission
Nothing much.. better get going before the commissioner knock on my online door.

Carazar Study
After nearly 2 months of studying, I feel that I have gained a lot but more importantly, enough to integrate my learning material to my artwork. I could go through more study of his work but I feel I have reached a point of diminishing return.
So out goes one artist. The next artist I'm looking toward to is AtomicKingBoo. I have already studied that artist before but feel I need more practice to get more.

Overall stuff I learnt from Carazar artwork
- His work consist of geometric shape (e.g. rectangle) but push it to the limit (one of Disney principle in squashing and stretching)
- His work very clearly defined which object is in front of other object (e.g. hat over glasses)
- His work of character costume looks simplistic but has vibrant colour and pattern to keep it interesting
- His work of playing around perspective encourages me to also have a go too - as Total Drama is not known for its 3D portrayal or other angles of interest.
Those 4 points are the most insightful points that I want/have incorporate in my art process.

Simpson
It wasn't like I didn't do art at all during my holiday. In my China holiday, I was often stuck at home (due to heavy flooding) or stuck in the train due to flood. So at those time, I go through Simpson cartoon book PDF and learnt more about their creation.
As I don't have any portable digital stuff with me, I did my practice all on A5 notebook. Here are some sketches
Also, I have decided to do a Simpson art gift for one of my friends who is a huge Simpson fan. This could either go really well or hellfire for me!
Current Draft
So wish me well.
TD Doodle
Watching NBA Playoff while doing those doodle. Shame my Magics couldn't win the final game against the Cavs.
Goals for upcoming sprint
- Simpson art gift (due by this weekend)
- Get to grip with TD commissions
- Start with art study of atomickingboo
Been some time since I last visit so gonna visit some art blogs at my spare time and see how slow I am compared to you guys! Thanks for reading!
Seems you've been busy man, but it's good to hear it all seems going well (floods not withstanding).
I never knew TD was that expansive xD. I'm learning more about it through your study points.
Simpson sketchs look great, and the more TD art and sketches you share the more it's growing on me. I do like your take on it even better than the references though, probably because there are several pretty girls in there xD.

Sprint Retrospective #11 of 2024 - (6/5/24 - 19/5/24)
After nearly 10 weeks of inactivity/doodle around, I have finally completed something I wanted to do!! Huzzah!!
Simpson Art
If there's one thing I don't like drawing cartoon from real-life reference, it's that you can exaggerate but not that much to be offensive. To avoid, I have to get the best reference without the subject directly - her boyfriend! XD
This actually paid off as he provided not only references but also specific features and explanation on why so. Particular example is her hair as I have initially drawn it like she has lots of big hair at the top where in reality, her hair is more flat.
So after some more discussion and feedback with him, I have finally finished and presented... and she love it! Thx Christ. XD
Not only is it an art gift but is also my first non-TD work ever! So double W for me!

After that, I feel more confident that I can do other/new art style without much fear now.
Would I do more Simpson work/comm in the future? Possibly but I need more practice on deconstructing Simpson art style before I could even think of comm. But let celebrate this victory quietly.

TD Comm
I have explained to my commissioners that I have started coming back into their comms but the trouble is finding the motivation to do line-art. Perhaps it's because of my insistence and easy ability to undo digitally, I have continuously redo the line again and again till I get the perfect one - thus costing me more time than initially expected.
Here's 1/2 of the comic with lineart atm.

AtomicKingBoo Study
Me this whole sprint

Goals for upcoming sprint
- Continue TD commissions - at least get the lineart done
- Get a start with art study of atomickingboo
That's it from me. Thx for reading and hope to see you again!
That's nice work. The sketches are nice as well.
That happens sometimes. I think it was mentioned on my page before that you can draw on your picture, and then you can erase the lines you don't want, or draw it again over the last picture. The comic looks pretty good. I would like to know the context of the comic later.
Something I've seen on a video was someone who used the pen tool to make their lines to their desired line weight then would go back and taper the lines by erasing some of the thickness near the ends of the lines to give it a bit of that hand drawn aspect to it. I saw it posed to someone else's page but I cant find it. or if anything turn your line smoothing up when doing like a really specific curve. I do really love your lineart tho it has a nice weight to it,
Honestly, you don't want to see it coming together.
Thx, man!
NSFW Commission. Sold my art dignity for cash
So my process on lineart is to have 2 layers - 1 for finished and another one for upcoming line drawing. That way I can do new line without affecting existing lines. That may lead me to keep finding perfect line lol.
Thx. If there's one thing I do appreciate from particular cartoon like Total Drama (Visible line), it's make you think about the line direction and flow. It's like giving the line an expression itself (much like line of action lol)
Sprint Retrospective #12 of 2024 - (20/5/24 - 2/6/24)
Was out with extensive amount of works for those 2 weeks so will keep it quick and short.
TD Comm
Finally finished the comm. Was lazy with the art background but you can see why it's NSFW lmao.
Have already started with the 2nd comm - just got my initial draft approved.
Basically, it's the same idea but reverse the character role. However this time, I play around with more expressive action and different angle. Aim to get the refined draft done and hopefully the lineart too.
AtomicKingBoo Study
Art Study gonna have to take a pause as my primary work is taking more priority at this time.

Others
Random TD Bridgette work
Goals for upcoming sprint
- Continue TD commissions
That's it from me. Quick and simple but at this time, other stuff are more prioritised. Hopefully, it's only a small blip and not a continuous trend.
Thanks for reading and hope you have a good art week!
