Fortnightly Blog #13 (15/8/22 - 28/8/22)
Update
Art School
The past 2 weeks was slow but good progress with my review of facial anatomy. I completed both head construction and ear construction but the key difference from initial study are:
- Understand each individual part
- Break it down and write it down on paper notebook
- Watch how other people (e.g. Proko) break down similar piece
- Practice on different angle
I'm currently studying and understanding on nose construction.
FORCE Study
Haven't done much art practice as I continued to read his book on applying FORCE on our drawing. I decide to cut the stream down (2 per week) to focus more on practicing FORCE. Best thing I have learnt so far is how connected our body is with each parts to generate a rhythm in our body flow; making it easier and quicker to deconstruct a pose.
I only practiced on paper; to get myself to "feel" the force of the model pose. The red colour represent how much energy the body is feeling. I also focused on the torso which covers 50% of the actual drawing.
TD Cartoon Work
Haven't done any doodle at all as I was fully studying on both facial anatomy and FORCE. I experimented around with some cartoon sketches as I applied my study into my cartoon works and see if it works or not. Plus, it allows me to have a go at using CSP to do cartoon work.
One habit I want to integrate is the habit of reviewing my work after each processing. This works by self-reviewing my work with fresh set of eye and offer critical analysis of the work, following by solution to fix that problem. This way, it will be self-critical but also offers optimism that I can fix it.
I will continue to do TD works to both practice my line art skill in CSP and also experiment around with my observation.
Collectible Fair
In my town, there was an event where collectibles such as comic and music. Being an artist, I was obviously interested in buying comics and other visual books that caught my eye,
Although I have a lot of online references and physical tutorial art books, I haven't owned a physical comic copy which I noticed most people trace their art inspiration from. Although I'm not a comic guy, I like how some display anatomy and dynamic strong pose.
I bought 4 comics which one costs $10 AUD while the other 3 cost $5 AUD. I bought them due to visual style interest even though I don't know the comic at all! I bought them to have a new look of how others do their art work (comics)
I may buy more comics in the future but those 4 will suit for me as interesting style.
Outlook towards the next 2 weeks
These 2 weeks have gone well despite the slow pace. However, I feel more happy and satisfied with my slow but understanding art progress.
For the next 2 weeks,:
- Continue to take paper notes on nose and mouth construction
- Continue to practice doing FORCE.
- Practice Line art skill on CSP
All right, thx for reading this blog and see you again in 2 weeks!
