Sprint Retrospective #14 (3/7/23 - 16/7/23)
NOTE - The 1st week (3/7 - 9/7) was school holiday so my family went off on a break while I have to stay back at home to continue to do work. Although I got independence (yay?), I have to do more responsibility, especially cooking.
Now my cooking skill is zilch so I thought it's a good time to try some basic cooking from cooking an egg to veggies such as broccoli. Obviously, it went fairly badly (e.g. egg is over cooked or the yolk broke when I cracked it) but I didn't burn my building so that's a mission success! XD
Even though it's not art, I feel I need to adopt a "Don't give a fck" altitude as I learn to cook by actually giving a fck about it and actually do it, rather than stay back and continue reading
it.
Past Sprint's Goal & Other Work
Short Term Benefit
After some time around, checking everywhere and seeing which one catches my attention, I eventually discover that I like to wear my NBA jersey for fun. I feel that I work best at night when I wear one of my NBA jersey collection, fake or real. And yes, I'm currently writing this blog wearing my #3 Dwayne Wade Heats jersey.
It may be expensive short-term benefit (a new NBA jersey is $130 AUD or $90 USD) but I remedy that by either non-popular new jersey (50% off) or used jersey in EBay. Plus, it provides me a short-term challenge as I'm can use my art commission money to buy new NBA jersey; thus providing me an incentive to keep grinding. In other word, I have an non-art incentive that will push me further.
Fair to say, I think I have found my short-term benefit but let see how far I can go within 4 weeks.
Facial anatomy wise, didn't do much as I was so busy understanding to cook and also doing over-due cartoon commission.
Cartoon Commission
Done 2 commissions this 2 weeks. Getting used to the lineart phase now.
Got 2 other comms to do this upcoming 2 weeks. One new char commission and the car commission I mentioned in the last blog.
Facial Expression
I want to keep it simple and just focused on the eye as the eye and eyebrow convey the most facial expression (2nd is mouth). So going thru Total Drama canon shot, I not only trace but understand why the artist chose to depict the feeling in that way.
This is from a female character so for the next 2 weeks, I'm going thru a male character and compare each other when done.
I'm looking to practice and create emotion via my upcoming doodle work.
Others
Total Drama Doodle works. Didn't do in the 1st week as I want to take a mind break and also got caught in technical bug squash work.
Also recorded my process in doing those doodle.
Also watching a video on how to not give a f*ck. Looking to review it again and try to incorporate to my life principle, not just art-wise.
What could have gone better?
Just focused on practising and not worry about being good. Enjoy the journey boredom, lol.
Improvement to make in next sprint
DON'T JUST STUDY! EXERCISE YOUR KNOWLEDGE!! ((Again)
Sprint Goals towards the next 2 weeks
- 2 Facial Studies per week
- Art Commissions
- Continued study on facial expression
Thx for reading! And of course, I'm open to any feedback!... if there's any work to show next
