Hi! I'm just beginning to learn the principals that govern how to paint environments. I have a basic familiarity with them, but I'm unsure if I'm applying them correctly, or if there may be some I'm unfamiliar with. The composition was purposefully simple so I could focus on stuff like perspective, however, I still think I could have thought it through better. Does anyone have any information that could help? Thanks!

Hey, I think you have a really nice piece here!

From some of the lessons I've seen on it, it appears that the more you stay strict on the rules of perspective the more stiff the image will look. After knowing the rules well enough, they can be broken slightly to show more interest.
Also maybe something to think about is, what would this piece look like if the camera angle was tilting up, down or perhaps diagonally. You could also range the size of the trees, increase the contrast of the values or have a more defined foreground, midground and background.

Hope this helps

Chris

Hi! I've never actually heard of bending the rules of perspective before, but the concept is really interesting. I'm definitely gonna research that!
Also, everything else was spot on too. I can't wait to try it out! Thank you <3

Glad I could help, Im looking forward to seeing what you come up with
