- Thank you! I finally cleaned that up. Meanwhile started 3 more ..I have a habit of taking too long to finish a piece, then I lose interest in it and just start something else. I found 8 from recently i started and abandoned, that are decent enough to not delete, but not finished. There’s also been a number of drawings I felt I “outgrew” - became better before I finished them, and it would be easier to start from scratch than fix them. Anyone else thinking that?in24.2k
- Lady Death Fanart Collectible: Part 6 Polypaint and base Hi, it’s time to share with you another part of the process to create this fanart piece. Polypaint As this is my first collectible fanart I didn’t have previous experience with polypaint so I tried my best and played a bit with it.I wanted to give a ghostly and eerie look to Lady Death, she is beautiful and deadly, but at the end of the day she is a woman that died and was reborn at hell as an avenging spirit, that’s why I gave her skin tone a bluish very cold tone.As you will see I gave myself some creative freedom to deviate from the traditional color scheme that this characater has in comics and illustrations.To add a bit of sensuality by painting some freckles on the face and the chest. The dark nature of this character was the perfect excuse to gave her a kind of goth make up, very dark shadows around the eyes, blue lips and fingernails. I know that the original character includes sexy red lips but I wanted this girl to have a sexy but at the same time creepy look, that’s why we can see some thin veins emanating from her eyes. The biggest chromatic change I did for this character is at the hair. Lady Death has a characteristic white weavy hair but in my fanart I decided to gave her a very saturated blue color.The reason behind this wasn’t only an aesthetic choice. I want that the face area strongly pulls the attention of the viewer so this area needed a stronger contrast. Another reason is that I want her to have a more modern look, as I mentioned before, I’m strongly attracted to women with goth/punk look. I gave myself half an hour or more to analyse the work of experienced sculptors that create collectibles and I discovered that the use of darker values on the skin is often applied to create a greater sense of volume and three-dimensionality. I found that areas with heavy ambient occlusion are the perfect places to paint with darker colors in order to increase the separation between different forms. Even though she has a bluish skin tone, I used a bit of warmer hues in areas that, in real life, tend to go towards red and pink, this is very obvious in the nose, cheeks, and knuckles. Thinking with a logical mind it’s completely absurd to have warmer tones on the body of a zombie like creature but I didn’t want to limit myself by using only blue tones, it looks boring and artificial. In real life these colors are created by blood vessels in areas where the skin is very thin. ** Scythe **for her weapon I applied a cool gray with some warmer variations, this color scheme is influenced by the work of H.R giger. Base I’d like to talk about the design for the base which, to be honest, I forgot to develop along with the character.My main idea with the base is to show that Lady Death inhabits a very sterile and arid land, at the end of the day she is at hell.You can see a that she walks over dirt and rocks, a sign that she’s surrounded by death and loneliness. As part of the landscape we can see some bones and skulls to reinforce the idea of lack of living creatures, yet we can see three hands that try to reach her legs.This hands represent that all creatures are subordinated to her power and seek an evil blessing with a simple touch of the princess of the damned.1- The hand with skin burns represents the souls of those who are newcomers to hell, tortured souls that suffer for the sins comitted on earth.2- The hand with greenish rotten skin and pustules is the reminder of the decay that has infected the souls of those who have been trapped and have forgotten their humanity3- Last but not least, the hand of a demon shows that even dark creatures and entities bow before her presence. The cherry on the top, at least in my vision, are the simese twins that emerge from the ground, this malevolent creatures remind us that in hell there’s only perversion and any trace of innocence is lost. Thanks for reading till this pointI’m really happy to be very close to finish this creative journey, last but not least it’s mandatory to talk about splitting the sculpture in several pieces to be printed, this will be my last entry before showing the final rendered images. See yaMay Zbrush be with youin1.4k

- Thank you @daceronine! If I remember I save in google cloud, I will have to stick a note to do it more often. Lamp is from life. Poses are from refs but I look at refs for a while and then try to do it myself and look it up if needed. Outfits and rest is from imagination Something went wrong while installing system so we will have to wipe everything again... pc works but something is wrong. We will wait till internet is done and I will save everything on cloud this time Threads came out in eu. It's been 3 days and I had more engagement than after half a year on instagram. It feels really nice I hope it stays this way A portrait of old dude. It's the same character I posted a while ago. Inspired by Bayard Wu work. At first I thought of him as a bear but I named him Fenrir and I think wolf suits him better. Eye gave me a bit of hard time but I think it is fine now. I focused on face and forgot about area below. The way I draw hair clashes with greying hair. I had the same problem while doing Lohse's white hair. Does it looks like it is greying here? I love how desaturated red looks blue there. I keep lying to myself that I will use different color scheme but It all comes down to this blue and yellowish one it is just flipped this time Have a great day!in48.0k

Really dig the combination of those two. Used softie for the sky, and acrylic for the other parts.
Hey @miguel_nogueira2k @pixelsnplay @Tutuja @cedricgo
Thank you for your kind compliments. Really appreciate it.
To answer your question @pixelsnplay its a mix of both. Drawn in pen, then fill in with flat colors in photoshop.
Hey you don't need my permission, ha. @Tutuja
@cedricgo For sure buddy.
You know there are some thoughts lingering around my mind right now and I want to put it out there. As you all know, I am doing both design and art.
So as I was taking a full day sabbatical yesterday, which was snorkeling, something I haven't done after 6 years of not doing it, I came to realize how fun that was due of the underwater world, you know.
So yeah, to make it concise :
I am doing design to see if I can make money out of it, but that initially possibly kills the excitement for it? Not sure, because I am not really enjoying it that much per say.
And then there is art, which I like doing, but not investing a whole lot of time into it yet. So possibly, the biggest source right now that cause this whole over complication is not having means to get income.
Why is that? I finished high school, late July 2016, and now I am living with my parents. My parents mentioned (mother) that she will help me go to vacation next year in Netherland (at my sister), which will happen in May 2017.
Possibly this might be related to mindset, like probably just stick with art till the day I go on vacation and see what happens, instead of diversifying my attention to both art and design ( a craft that I do not have a love for), I mean you can even see it in the stuffs that I am most interested in.
So yeah, a long thought ramble with no end... who knows maybe someone can make this whole thought more sense for me if they read, unless I came to a conclusion.
@brianhermelijn Hey man, seems like you're in a cross-paths. Not too sure what you mean by 'design', but you just recently graduated from High School. With that in mind, you have plenty of time to decide where you want to head with your future/life! There are many things you can explore to earn income, aside from design, which like you said, isn't what you enjoy per say. Never trade money for a peace of mind unless there's no other choice. In your case, there seem to be various options. I honestly recommend assessing where you are in pursuing art and make a mental/written map of how to get there. If what you see isn't what you'd like, it's easy to switch and find/check another option, simply because you're technically in your collegiate years right now. There's honestly no rush. Think of it as switching Majors in college and pursuing different fields of work/passions. Best of wishes-
@brianhermelijn You don't have to decide what you want to do for the rest of your life so quickly, especially if you're just coming out of high school. Seriously, take it slow and see what's enjoyable now.
One of the factors to life is that you may end up in any career and looking back, have no idea how you got there. I work for a software company, and the different people I'be met have been very interesting. You have developers, like myself, who mostly went through school learning how to code, but then you look to people like our lead product manager, and he's got a degree in animation. Our marketing team's social media manager went to school for fashion, and our front end web developer is a graphic artist.
You'll end up somewhere doing what you enjoy, no matter what path you took to get there, so long as you're open and perceptive.
So if you don't like design, and you like doing art, then try doing art for a bit. Practice all you can, paint all you want, and see if you can boot up a freelance career. Make connections with as many other artists as possible, people in various industries, and see what people need. Maybe you'll get asked to make an environmental piece with a setting sun as a gif, and learn you love animation. Maybe after that you'll find you have more interest in animating characters, rather than scenes, and then you'll find you like 3D animation over 2D. Then you'll learn you love rigging the models, but hate some of the scripts and tools available. Maybe you'll learn how to code to try and make better tools, and learn you like writing scripts to help animators.
Or maybe you'll volunteer at an animal hospital, and learn you love working with animals. Then you'll learn about how comforting animals can be to people in need, and start an animal therapy retreat. Who knows?
TL;DR: Do what you enjoy, and be open to enjoying new things. There's no rule saying you have to do one thing for the rest of your life.
@ESL
You're right, the term design is vague when I put it like that. Which initially is what I learned from the internet (studied IT from school, not what I expected it to be after nearly finishing it, since you can learn almost 95% of it from the interwebs now)
But definitely as in having time. It's funny how I gather all these wisdom from other peoples, like Gary Vaynerchuk, Seth Godin, Cal Newport, Robert Greene etc. and when I face the situation they referred to, its like your mind do a 360 turn, instead of been okay where you're at and let yourself test the waters.
I guess the main frustration would be is the whole money subject that can make you feel like sad maybe, for not been able to contribute to your family (in this case parents), but I shouldn't let that get the best of me. Because I know the current economy issue, and all I have to think about right now while using that patient threshold is improving my ability and experiment with crafts as you said.
@JesterSeraph
I am not too sure if it's choosing what to do the rest of my life is what I am going through, rather its more related to means of making pennies.
After all, when you're at home and not been able to earn anything, definitely starts taking its toll on your mind, especially when you see your household situation ( not been able to contribute in the house (parents house ) ) etc.
But yeah, mentioned to ESL as well, its a matter of in my case been patient with it and let the flow of life go on its own, while still remaining vigilant of opportunities, things I can apply etc.
Because I do know about like different seasons for different interests (cultivating passions) for however long it last etc. but its like even if you have all those knowledge you gathered throughout the years from different sources, when you face the situation, your mind takes a 360 u turn, ha.
But overall, I will just have to remain patience, and cultivate the seasons, and if there are means for me to be able to make income and help, then can do that, for now will just have to focus on improving/practicing/experimenting and see what happens.
Thank you for sharing your own insights @JesterSeraph @ESL , really appreciate the time you guys took to respond to this whole ramble thought that I put up there.
Thank you
It's Great to see an environmental artist
since I main character design I'm not particularly strong on environments.....
but like Feng Zhu said......Character and environmental design are essentially the same, your just painting form!
I'm pretty crappy at critiques soooo....got any tips for environments?
