Hey everyone ! First time poster here and i'm excited to get feedback on an issue I've been struggling with lately. How do you keep your designs, (Environment, Props, Characters, Vehicles) looking cohesive, yet also characterized by the party associated with whatever design you're creating?
It's currently 5:02 AM in NYC and I want to make this quick so I can come back to this in the morning and possibly update this post with photos and more information on the project I'm working on.
I have my motifs for my designs 'planned', they don't neccesarily have anything important to do with the story as they dont really limit what I can design, but they do make sense in the context of an overall narrative that I need to communicate. However, to put it really simply, I'm struggling to see how a potential portfolio reviewer might recognize the designs I've implemented throughout the project as cohesive at all.
I'm at the very beginning stages of this project and I really only have one design ready to be digitally finished and I'm stuck as I start the second design. Both are vehicles that exist within the same world, however I get this feeling that one is more 'fantasy' than 'sci-fi' and although i really enjoy both designs, they don't look like they exist in the same universe.
TL:DR, I can't decide whether my world is fantasy or sci-fi and it's preventing me from referencing properly.
Please let me know if you have any questions, I have ref boards for all the designs planned for the project, thumbnails for both vehicles, and the finished sketch of one of the vehicles. If you need those to answer I'll make an imgur album for you! Or if you want to know about the project i'd gladly explain more. If you have any sort of advice at all I'm all ears! I'm about to drop dead because I've been thinking about this since I woke up. Please help!
