Hey everyone, my name is Jasmine I joined Art school a while ago and completed the course (it took about 2 years) I revisit and post on here. I am studying concept art/character design still with other courses too! So follow my journey 😁

With art sometimes I try to run before I can walk and I have to remember to learn fundamentals before I can do the things I find super fun. Properly doing each of Marc’s assignments and I am definitely feeling a lot more confident, by the end of the year I will be so much better. Some poses are easier to do than others. Term 1 drawing cylinders on photos & drawing cylinders using photo reference

Drawing these proportions was quite a nice exercise I need to remember these proportions for when I’m drawing other poses as limbs tend to be shorter than the other. First attempt was on the left and on the right is a more defined sketch.

Using the measurement technique marc suggested I found it quite helpful also drawing lines across where each body part should start and end is super handy.

I can honestly say quick gesture drawing makes me want to quit drawing forever, I know overtime I’ll get better but as my skills are not strong drawing quickly is so difficult I need time to fix my mistakes and understand where I’m going wrong as opposed to worrying about how much time I have left go finish a drawing. For some reason my mind can’t grasp the concept of doing something quickly lol.

Feeling a lot less stiff with the gesture drawings and trying not to overthink them.

Perspective room study, first time doing a proper room study happy with the outcome. Feeling that daily studies really do help even when taking a few minutes a day to do them, the improvement is noticeable

This perspective study is spot on. Fantastic work! You really are doing an awesome job with these extreme poses. Really fantastic. Keep it up!

One thing I find hardest about the face is the shading, after struggling with proportions and becoming more comfortable shading a long with symmetry are really difficult for me.

On the left is one of my character Rikah in my upcoming webcomic, I was watching some of marks tips and tricks for shading and how to make your art look finished I’m gaining more confidence in that. I usually go from pose studies to testing myself with new techniques. On the right is a sketch of a cyborg inspired character, I find these chars so cool but the different shapes and mechanical parts are a lot for me to get my head around.

I actually did let enjoy creating these small creatures haha, I prefer to do things either in more detail or anime style. I do know the mind of work you put in your portfolio determines what work you may be doing or scouted for so I definitely wouldn’t put pieces like this in my portfolio when I’m looking to work in a gaming company.

Kinda done with term 4 slowly getting to grips with different parts of anatomy and revisiting some perspective classes.

Really nice work Jasmine! These characters have so much .. character! Loving them. One thing Marc told me recently when working on clothes was to go really really dark in the deep recesses. It helps the illusion of 3d. I am still very new with clothing and don't full have this down but I am working on it for sure. Great work. Keep it up!

Unfinished character design. I finished the first part of the colour theory class and tested out using complimentary colours
