(Some gesture drawings, pose studies and doodles of objects around me whilst I was at the airport - drawing things whilst out is really good practice)
I recently attended an art event in Portugal and realised how low my skills are I was able to get 3 portfolio reviews from professionals and other artists. Also met some artists who work in studios I hope to work in someday. A few of the critiques were to focus on fundamentals, learn and convey textures well and decide which studios I want to work in and cater my art towards their art style.

I was a little sad at first realising how behind I am but now I am motivated to improve so the people I met can see my progress next year when I re-attend the event and hopefully get some job interviews.

Practicing different body types, trying to do gesture and pose studies everyday to improve fundamentals as well as drawing clothes. Drawing more challenging positions helps me realise I’m more comfortable with standard poses

Hey I love the pose/cloth studies <3
The way you use your strokes and values make these studies already look illustrative kinda. A really great style ^.^

Same goes for the objects you drew, like the exit sign.
I am pretty sure you'll blow them away next year ;}

May I ask which event you went to?

@prinzmoana Thank you so much! One artist that worked for Pixar mentioned not using straight lines when drawing drawing characters so I’m trying to implement that. The event is called Trojan horse was a unicorn (THU) usually hosted in Portugal sometimes in Malta, it’s a really good event.

Sounds like a great event! Even though it sounds like it was hard it seems like you learned quite a bit! One thing that always stuck out to me from Marcs streams was when he said the only difference between the professional artists and everyone else is that they are the ones that didnt quit. Keep on keeping on and you will get there! I think you are doing great and look forward to seeing more!

Participating in the 100 heads challenge by Ahmed aldoori This is such a good challenge as it really pushes you to draw different types of faces, I. Trying to improve rendering, values and lines with this challenge

3 days left to do 100 heads. This is helping with confidence of just diving right in and drawing as opposed to normally overthinking. Though I never wanna draw another head again LOL. enjoying drawing different faces with different accessories

Understanding textures and lighting, working with values to create contrast
Often times I would try to draw the clothing without understanding how the body is posed underneath which would result in distortion. As I’m understanding anatomy a little better I am able to draw cylinders on top of clothed figures. (Yes I hate drawing shoes but I’ll get there LOL)

Continuing with the 100 heads challenge is helping me come up with different ways to draw heads quickly but still remain in proportion, when I take my time I can draw heads well but when rushing there is a lot of distortion but it’s good practice.

Stylised, greyscale and colour practice. As I want to get into character concept art my main focuses are ensuring I can stylise faces and fabrics as well as being able to drawing different clothing types efficiently

Hi Jasmine, I did a quick paint over of this character. I hope you don't mind.

I know this is stylized, so ignore any of this if it's not what you were going for lol. I adjusted the nose a little bit to match the reference more, I also changed the perspective of the mouth to show more of her left side as it is rotating around the form. I removed the part of her face by her right eye and added a bit of extra saturation around the terminators. You did a fantastic job on this and she is a lovely character! Keep up the good work!

Edit, also changed the perspective of the chin after looking at it a bit more!

@lockenheim no worries, thank you it’s clearer to understand what someone means with paintovers. For the nose I did realise it wasn’t the same as the models but loved the shape of the nose. Thank you for taking the time to critique

Did manage to finish the 100 heads challenge a few days ago, will definitely do the 50 heads challenge as it will allow time to properly work on the heads other than rushing. Was still a good challenge.

Good to revisit fundamentals

60 second gesture practice, some days It feels effortless others look very distorted

Gotten to a point where I just need to practice so much, there’s only so many techniques you can learn till you realise you just have to produce bad work and it’ll get good. Exploring using boxes and ovals with cylinders to get the right form.

Hey I love the way you draw your sketches, they look sketchy and loose, but still very defined and clear. Do you use a special brush or process to sketch that way? 😄
