I wanted to share my gesture drawings today. I am definitely getting better ( and faster ), but I feel I still need to properly look at the forms themselves. Any advice / critique would be much appreciated

So, here is my first attempt at drawing the full figure. I feel there is a lot to learn still. I'd like to learn enough to be able to draw the human body accurately. Perhaps I just need some more patience and time. If anyone has got some suggestions, I would much appreciate the help. Now, the last part of the nude figure drawing is the proportions. I'll be on to perspective next.

I have started to learn about human proportions. I feel like I have at least a bit of a good grasp on this, though feedback is spprectiated. I want to learn to do this quite well.

I just wanted to do a quick post here to provide an update as to my gesture drawings. I have been improving quite a bit ( for my pace at least ), and am starting to love the art process now. I'm slowly gaining more confidence through endless practice!

I got some brand new references for the gesture drawings, since the references I was using were getting stale. It also let me quickly learn and adjust to new gestures / angles which weren't in the old references.

I have also begun the assignments for digital production ( photoshop ).

I am working through the lecture on perspective and will begin practicing and learning as I go.

Been through a lot since the last post..I'll post more in a bit

Alright...it's been a while. I simply couldn't figure out how to do the last one for the 'image adjustments' task, so I decided to just post what I have now and move on. At this point, all I have left is the perspective assignment of the room, and then I'll shortly be onto Term 2 ( which is quite exciting! )

For this one, I went for the castle ( and ALL images were my own! - I didn't want to search the internet for hours and hours looking for good photos )

..Well. Okay, this year has been quite hard to get through. Again, I had to go through a lot to get to this point. I just wanted to quickly do the perspective assignment so I could get it done and get back into my groove with TERM 2

Alright. I have gone through one of the classes, I'll try to do the rest by the end of the month. Here is a quick update on my progress with the gesture drawings

Hello joe, u have a good grasp of "overall" gesture, i'm sure u will improve if u trace confident line on top of ur itchy lines . u will find patterns and how some curves well placed will definied the gesture and it will make sens with anatomy. After identified thoses lines u will start to replace ur itchy by those confident line u have grasped who definied the gesture. Keep it up :+1:

I have begun studying facial anatomy, and here are my initial sketches for each ( including the full head itself - from my imagination ).

Great studies! Especially your noses, they are so hard... Also, the style of the full face is really interesting.
Two small things though: the lashes on the left eye look kind of unnatural (they should "bundle up" some more). The mandible of the full face is way too long, but would work perfectly for a caricature.

Thanks Julia, your comments really helped. In the photo reference for the left eye the lashes were quite long, so in the photo they were natural. Perhaps there's a 'threshold' of the length of the lashes which if crossed make them appear fake ( or maybe that threshold changes for each individual character's eyes )

Yes, the mandible is quite long... For me, I wanted to let go a bit of making things super accurate and stylized since it was from my own imagination ( for photo references though accuracy is key )

I have begun learning 3-Point perspective, and this is my first real attempt at sketching out a simple drawing with basic shapes, forms, and lighting. I'm sure I've done a lot of mistakes which I can't see with my own eyes, so I'd be happy to learn how to improve. Also, happy holidays!

I took the feedback of creating thicker lines on my gesture drawings to add some depth, and I feel it worked out quite well. I also took more time in this session, and that certainly made it a lot easier to actually look at each reference image and force myself to learn to break each figure down into the most basic forms, shapes, and lines I could imagine.

As always, I appreciate feedback. Happy holidays

I think the improvement is really noticable. Your lines, and by extension the gestures themselves, are getting much cleaner. Good work :+1:

Thank you! I suppose it's all about the accuracy of the proportions and ultimately being able to fully visualize the human body and breaking it down into simple forms / lines now. Line quality is also something to work on.

Hi Joe.
Wow your sketches is really good.
I also just started and must say I have already improve a lot.
looking forward to see more of your work.

This is just a simple post. I've been on the edge of burnout for weeks now and so I'm making the decision to take a complete break from social media for a while. I want to really take the time to get back to my senses and find out a strong 'why' for what I want to accomplish in my lifetime.

Art School has been fun. I'll keep on drawing and learning, but no social media usage. This break could be a few weeks, a month, a few months, or even longer. And that's okay. Sometimes in life you need to make tough decisions. I want to thank everyone who commented on my posts with feedback, it really helped me out and I'm grateful for all of it.

With all that said, Goodbye

I get some of the feelings you have, so best of luck to you during your break. I hope you eventually come back refreshed, no matter how long it takes you :+1:
