Greetings!

My name is Juan José, Juanjo for short.

After some time and consideration, I finally decided to bite the bullet and purchase the Art School course.

During my life I have made some drawings now and then but never really delved into learning how to draw and paint. Being a software developer by trade, I guess I needed a good excuse. And now I have one.

I know there's a long road before me, but I'll focus on taking a step at a time.

I've watched all the videos for term 1 and finally decided to do some gesture drawing just to break the ice. I guess they're not too bad for 30s, but I should focus more on getting the stick figure right.

It's the first time that I see white gesture drawing on dark canvas and it looks so goood Your lines are a bit rough but for 30 seconds it's a really great study session, keep going on

I think these are some good gestures and your proportions look good.

One thing that I noticed was that your figures look a bit stiff, I think using more curved lines will help with that. I did a draw over to show what I mean. 30-second gestures are tricky but I think that getting the figure simplified to only 4 or 5 curved lines is the way to go.

This is a really good start and I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with future assignments!

Hey, thank you very much for the feedback! Much appreciated.
I guess much of that stiffness comes from my (bad) habit of drawing mostly stiff front and side views back in the day. I'm more used to straight lines, too. I guess it will take some time to loosen my poses and get used to draw characters with foreshortening and perspective.

Some more progress, ex. 3 skeletons over reference photos:

Oh, God, the archer lady was my first try at this exercise and it shows. I found it tricky to get the direction for the cilinders from photographs, but kind of improved with each one. Just trying to stay positive.
I think I'll trace some more using a box or wedge for the ribcage and pelvis, not sure if ellipses are for me at this stage.

Meanwhile... ex. 4 WIP:

Compared to the references the upper bodies are mostly ok but the pelvises are way off. I didn't measure and I think it wasn't the purpose of the exercise, but I'll try to correct that for the remaining 3. And draw in white

Hey, I'm back! I've had some motivation issues and other things going on in my life, but I finally finished the figure drawing exercises:



I'm not really happy with how legs turned out in general. I think I have some problems drawing the lower part of the body. Maybe I'll skip ahead to the anatomy lessons to get that sorted out.
Not that I am a master of the upper body, but they turn out decently accurate, while the lower bodies are way off. Or maybe it's my measurements which are lacking.

Anyway, comments and critique are welcome!

I think you're quite close on the proportions on the lower body too. With poses like this it's tricky to see the actual proportions without shading. Maybe just the feet need some corrections, and that will make the right leg seem longer.

Hey, it´s been a while!
Here are some face sketches I´ve done lately.

Not happy about the construction, but I think drawing a box helps me visualize the volume better than a sliced sphere.
Next challenge: hair hahaha.
