If I may add, its more of the gesture first before the perspective. I can definitely say that you're improving quite well lock but don't forget the basics. its our foundation to have solid drawings

As proko said, push that gesture more to give it more flow/dynamism (im not really sure if proko said that last words LOL)

Hello everyone, this is the final version of this Lucy piece. I have been super frustrated with this piece because I continue to struggle with this process. This is the piece I have probably put the most amount of time into and has one of the worst results. I have been taking a lighter work load to avoid burnout after this one. I did a few changes and decided I needed to be done with this one rather than continue to get frustrated. Anyways! Thats a quick update thank you for checking out this work!

Don't be too discouraged, this piece is also a bit more on the tricky side, because in the pose is foreshortening and also gravity plays into it, or rather not bc it's in space x)

In terms of color and light this piece is a huge level up in my eyes. Her soft skin tones are extremely well done. Also I like how the fabric of the cape (?) is transparent, so you could see the stars behind it, gives her a very airy vibe ^.^

I like this piece, but don't forget it's just one step in your journey, so in future you'll be even better 😊👍

Some good advice I heard is if an art piece isn't going well in the first 5 minutes something needs to be changed. which may results in completely redrawing the piece or choosing a different angle. Also "Your first idea is never your best idea" (or rather unlikely to be) - when you look at a lot of professional illustrators work they do so many iterations of how one piece can be in terms of lighting & perspective then they figure out which one works the best before going through all the trouble of fully rendering it theres a super cool artist called Jennifer Wuestling who works at Riot Games and shares a lot of her process as a senior illustrator. I find the process makes so much sense although as a new artist it can be daunting to try and draw 5 iterations of the same piece.

On her instagram and on artstation she posts pictures of each step from sketch to greyscale render to colour etc.. and on her instagram she sometimes posts her final illustration but all the other ones she was considering before getting to that one. I have seen on their site they show their char designs and some prop stuff

@snakker I was really frustrated with the result for the amount of time I had put in, I felt like my shading layer was really solid but it didn't transfer to the final piece. Felt like I had painted this one several times over and got a result that wasnt equal to the time. Been working some process over the past few weeks to get some improvements.

@prinzmoana thank you for the kind words, I appreciate the encouragement. I was happy with the tones on her face in the end!

As for the process, I see that what is frustrating you is that you are not getting the result you want, so I guess you aren’t achieving your intent in artistic expression with your work… I can understand the frustration but seeing how far you’ve progressed I am sure it is inly a matter of little time for you to reach that level

Thank you for the feedback. Yes it is something like that. I think it can be hard to explain. It was mostly being frustrated with my digital work flow and having the feeling that I would have to repeat the same step mutiple times with the workflow if that makes any sense. As a result Idid some study of different workflow and changed a bit to something that works better for me. Thank you for kind words. The figure with the gun is from a show I watched recently and liked, It was from edgerunners cyberpunk.

I’m a little bit late you made a new pieces already Great piece, I saw you’ve been frustrated with it but this is a hard pose,I like the general idea. I thought a lot if I should say something because I’m not 100% sure about it, but here I am. Most part are great, the gesture, the anatomy, the light. I think you have mistake in the rib cage, because you have a little twist and that is what confuses you. It has some problem with head, I think it is the ear. I would hid the ear with hair and shown the neck. You ankle is too thin. Don’t skip feet The moon is enormous and draw more attention than character, maybe the character should be bigger or the moon should be smaller. Great piece, good work ^^
I also saw your new pieces, I see you have improvement in shadows and heads. Your shadows was too grey. Now they are more colourful

@nikolinkanikolova Thank you very much for this feedback! I can see what you are saying here. I definitely need to do some practice on feet for sure! The rib cage was definitely a difficult area due to the bend on this piece. Thank you for pointing out th eerror with the ear, feet, angkle and ribs! This is very valuable!

very nice practice sketches! and even nicer finished painting!

The only thing i'd point about about the painting is:

The ribbon and the hair kind of blend in shapewise and looks like one long shape.

Personally i'd recommend just selecting that bottom ribbon and rotating it to the left slightly kind of like so. imo it reads better:

As for the painting, i really like the overall result. I do notice that the brachioradialis seems to be coming from behind the biceps at the elbow and her left hand seems a bit small overall

@snakker thank you so much! I was trying to add more dynamism to my figures this week! I agree with you the arm shading is pretty weak in general and one of the areas that I was least satisfied with. Thank you for also pointing out the hand issues! I will pay more attention to these areas in the future thank you!
